Judging by a lot of people on this forum I don't know that many of them seem to care so much about fuel economy. It's all the 500-600hp z28 threads have made me come to that realization. However I think the launch control when used will marginally improve fuel economy, in that you aren't waisting gas spinning your tires, but marginally is the key here as in not noticeably.

Ok well this may be a noob question to ask, but is this launch control the same thing as the ASR our 4th gens had in them? Because if I recall, you (I) turned the ASR off when we were on the strip?

Is the launch rpm manually adustable (I'm assuming) or automatically determined?
If manually adjustable, it sounds a lot like the two-step I installed when I used to race my 4th gen ![]() How cool is that? Can't think of many other production cars that come with a factory two-step ![]() Paul... |

The E46 M3 had launch control on the SMG transmissions...but not on the manual.
When engaged, you would floor the gas and it would put the revs to the 'optimum' level and when 'released' it would dump the clutch and release the throttle control back to the gas pedal. It was an SMG...so when I say 'dump the clutch...it DUMPED the clutch...quicker than a person could dump it. The optimal revs don't take into account street temp, tire type/quality, etc...so you could still get wheel spin. This was such a 'violent' process, that BMW had issues and, rumor has it, at one point was threatening to void warranty with excessive use...defined as 'more than three times'. The owners manual simply cautions against excessive use. Here's a couple of good videos of it 'in action'. Notice this one has more wheel spin..... |

I think this is a cool feature especially for those of us who arent as familiar with driving stick so we dont grind the gears as easily? (that is what it woudl help) while also reduciing tirespin to save the treads a bit longer?

What is the big deal? It is just a lower (gentler?) rev limiter.
The no lift shift is pretty cool in that it causes the Cobalt SS’s (turbo charged) engine to run less efficiently (at WOT with the clutch pedal down) so it can keep the turbo spooled up without hitting the rev limiter too hard. Not that that would help the Camaro any. Interesting but old (March) 08 Cobalt SS review: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=125288 |

I'm on the fence with this feature because I think it takes a little away from the excitement of trying to come off the line like you were kicked by God. I'm not going to complain about it, I just hope I can defeat it if I want. I'm a kinda' manual tranny snob although my current car is a stalled auto' but I'd like to be able to get a manual car next and have fun powershifting again.
