Well I removed the spring and must say it does not feel as "rubberbandy". I like it better without the spring.

Goodluck!

Just removed the spring as well. Wow! Way better! I always felt like there were two different tensions while letting out the clutch. A lot smoother now.

I guess the question is... Why did GM install a part if it's not needed?

Even though I drove the V6 that is exactly what it felt like. Maybe the V6 manual has the same clutch spring that makes it feel unnatural.

I don't know why Chevy put the spring in there but I can't see any reason why it would be detrimental to the car with its absence.

The only idea I have of why they put it there is becasue it helps you avoid riding the clutch, especially for those who have not driven a manual before.

The clutch now, after taking it for an extended drive, feels close enough to fine and releases with the same pedal pressure as any other clutch.

If anyone has anything on why they put it in there please chime in.

One thing I noticed was that in parking lot situations or pulling into my garage sometimes I smell the clutch. Before anyone chimes in and says I am not driving it right I've driven a manual for 10 years and I know i'm not riding it nor has it happened with any of my past rides. This might be off topic but I wanted to mention it.

After talking to one of my friends who is an engineer for a major car company I have decided to put the spring back on.

He says on some, actually most, hydraulic clutches the clutch does not engage fast so the spring helps with the engagement. Actually he says it its probably necessary that the spring stays on for the clutch to engage all the way. He says if Chevy decided to put the spring in there for this purpose it should be left in.

Just his 2 cents. Im going to follow them

Yup, Engineers put stuff on cars all the time that's absolutely unnecessary for the halibut. I have no problem with the clutch the way it is stock, if ain't broke...

It's happened to me once. I got caught out on a steep hill and had to let the clutch slip at 2000 rpms for a moment. Smelled clutchy for a few seconds. That was about 500 miles ago. Other than that, I haven't smelled it.

To help keep the peddle from sticking to the floor. On a quick release they want the pedal coming up quick to avoid the problem of the peddle staying down toward the floor on a quick shift. Peddle sticking to the floor has been an issue in the past in things like Vettes, GTO, G8s...

When I first got mine I noticed the exact same thing. It stopped after I had put about 500 miles on it.

Is it possible your install pic the spring is upside down.. I removed mine without taking a good look and found no real difference.. so decided to put it back ... when I installed like your pic it rubbed the wire harness.. so I installed in reverse.. it seams better that before? any thoughts?

I would think they put the spring there to keep the throw-out bearing from laying on the pressure plate fingers. It really can't do anything to aid engagement, that is strictly the function of the pressure plate and disc.
