I will make this plain and simple. If you are not a card carrying member of USAA you are screwed. I found out the hard way a few weeks ago. Since I ordered my Camaro I have lost out on $1,250 worth of incentives. Moral of the story is to never bank on any incentives when you are figuring the price of the car. Just a print out of your USAA # is no longer any good.

USAA

Its still going. Bought mine this week and they did all the paperwork for me.

Saved me $750.00

The dealer ended up give me the car for under invoice. I worked him over for 3 hours but I know they probably hosed me 6 ways from Sunday anyhow. I dread new car purchases but this car was worth my aggravation.

Anybody can sign up for USAA. I've heard of people who log on to USAA at the dealership to prove their membership. Depends on the dealer if they want to be cool about it or be jerks.

This changed January 15, 2010. It used to be that easy, but not anymore.

Anybody can sign up to be a member of USAA, however only those with full member benefits can take advantage of the $750.00 USAA discount.

It is not the dealers being jerks. Dealers get audited. We have to follow the rules.

I agree with Anna.... If they give you the $750 without knowing what qualifies, expect a dealer to send you a bill or eat it. Since the mark up is so minimal - a bill might be more common.

Ah, I was not aware of that change. Thank you.

I meant no offense with the "jerk" comment. Just some dealers are more difficult to deal with than others.

Understood, Kalenn!

Unfortunately lots of dealers out there have worked hard over the years to give us all a bad name...:(

Sadly, I have met quite a few. It's a rare find when you meet up with a good salesperson who truly wants to help you. That one person makes it all worth while and the purchase of a new vehicle even better.

However, I'm now derailing the thread and it's intended purpose.

I am eligible for the actual USAA (military). But I certainly would not pay any bill my dealer sent me 6 months after the sale... If they do not look it up and do not how to follow the process properly they should not bill the customer and they should take the loss. I know a lot of people are scheming to get it but there may be people who legitimately do not know (or dealer pro actively offers it by simply registering online to close a sale) and they do not deserve a bill in the mail. I would ask them to provide documentation stating they reserved the right to bill you for a rebate THEY processed incorrectly. Even if they did..shaky at best..

The dealers on here are phenomenal and I feel for any of the honest dealers who get hurt by this come audit time..but the bottom line is it is the responsibility of the dealer to process the transaction correctly and verify the CORRECT documents.
