Engine was warm (ran for about 5 minutes) but not hot. I dont like burning myself. I really couldnt get a grip on it though, there is not enough of the filter hanging below the pan to hold onto without a strap or something.

The new filter I have does fit my filter-top socket so it wont be a problem next time.

Hopefully I got everything right. At first I only had about 7 1/2 qts then I slowly added more and measured etc. Seems pretty easy on this car. Some others I've had liked to hold onto old oil a bit more than this one does.

That was gonna be my suggestion, had to do that quite a few times then had a family friend tell me to rub a little oil on the filter gasket when installing the new one so it wouldn't seize up.
