No, Mactruck, I don't think it is "killing" Corvette sales. The horrid sales the Corvette is experiencing are, as mentioned, are probably more due to the economy than anything else. The GS should help for 2010 MY.

Buuuuhhhhhhttt, there are buyers that instead of a $36,000 SS might have bought a Corvette for $56,000 or more. Some buyers wanted the newest, coolest car in the showroom and arguably that is the Camaro. So, YES, it it probably impacting sales somewhat. I haven't seen a number internally that would say how much but it would be silly to suggest the Camaro hasn't hurt the Corvette sales a bit.

Now back to comparing how an LS3 Corvette is better than an LS3 Camaro......................
Unlike, Number 3, I have seen the numbers and he is exactly right. These are two vehicles that serve completely different market segments with 2 different buyers demographically. The economy is the main culprit, not the Camaro. Yes, there is some interplay among these two cars at the fringe, but not much as some might think.

GM surveys customers as to what vehicle they would have purchased if the Camaro was not available. This 2nd choice data gives us an indication as to how much these two cannibalize each other. We also look at reverse 2nd choice. These are people who buy a Corvette (or something else) and list Camaro as their second choice. Yes, there are some Chevy customers who bleed bowtie and have multiple performance cars who might have purchased another Vette to add to the stable if the Camaro wasn't available. There are also some that do indeed "buy down" from Corvette because they want to try the C5 Camaro. Bottom line...there are not a lot of people in either group.

I work for Chevy, have a choice and can afford either. I love both cars, but own a Camaro because it fits my life stage better. I need back seats for the kids and enough trunk space to haul their gear. Even if I didn't, I might still prefer the Camaro. While the Vette is an all around better performance machine with a more refined driving experience, I actually have more fun driving a Camaro because it IS a little more raw. I like that.

Unless you had to have a back seat I can't understand why someone would buy a new camaro for 36k when they could get a very lightly used LS3 vette for the same money...

None whatsoever...that's really strange. A V6 Camaro could beat an Impala SS. The Camaro SS should blow its doors off.[/QUOTE]

Hmm...I dont know what is going on! I really figured it would woop my Impala too. I am going to get an oil change soon and will check with the service department to get their take on it. The impala has 303 hp with front wheel drive (less hp loss than the rear wheel drive camaro???) Anyways..I appreciate your concern! I am concerned too!

Anyone know how vette sales are doing?

I was either going to buy a few year old vette or a new camaro and I asked the dealer to park them side by side and you know what?

My camaro beat it in the looks department. Plus it was higher in the nose and more evil looking. Now I ended up not getting the v-8 after a test drive of both camaros but if you want to go by looks I think the camaro looks more bad ass.

I agree the vette is a dif class of car and will romp my ass but -- over all the camaro has it in the looks department I thinks.

By the way in my red neck area vette owners gawk at me and point as I cruise by laughing. ( and hoping they don't want to race my v-6 lol )

I really enjoy my Camaro (all 3 of them)...but I still have a Corvette on my want/things to do list. I think there's a law somewhere that states that a man over the age of 50 must buy a Corvette before their demise! I like them both! Two totally different driving experiences.

my dad and grandfather have owned vettes forever and while they both like the camaro, to them the vette is the top of the food chain. I am going to purchase another car this year and it would have been a vette as I already have an accord as dd, but I want to be able to let my 2 year old son be able to enjoy car as well in back seat so I will pick camaro until he and future sibling gets older and daddy will get vette

The corvette and the camaro are stablemates. One is not better than the other, they are just differant cars. I own a 99 FRC vette and a 2010 2ss/rs camaro and I love them both. I also own a 68 SS/RS camaro with a 600 ci BBC, I love it to! If people want to bicker over mine is bigger than yours type disscusions save it for the mustangs and challengers for the camaro and ferrari's and vipers for the vette. Do not pit brothers against each other no body wins!

Vettes are cool but they're definitely doing the exotic car thing by only making minor changes if any from year to year. Like it was said at the top of the thread, why pay twice as much for the same power? Stupid in my opinion.

Twice as much? You can get the base Vette with the LS3 for only $10K more than the topped out SS/RS...as stated above, they are different cars - and the LS3 Vette will out perform/handle the SS Camaro with the same power...twice as much is the Z06 which outperforms the SS in, well, every way!

Love em both, just couldn't afford (yet) the Vette...C7 here I come - in 4 years!

I agree it's not twice as much, but is that a fair comparison?
