Wheel and tire differences

Whats going on, I wanted to know about switching out the OEM SS wheels and putting a 5 spoke 22" x 11 on back and 22" x 9.5 in the front. I am going to go with Forgiato or Savini 3-piece forged wheels to keep them light and durable. I dont want to loose any performance or low end power though. So I need to do a plus 2 where it keeps the original height of the OEM wheels and tires. If not you loose proper shift points and it causes the RPMs/speedometer readings to be incorrect. Can anyone help with the proper solution or size of the tire I want to go with to make this happen. I dont want this to look "ghetto" though. This is still a muscle car (Black) but the tires definitely need to be wider to bite a little more, especially with the tuning about to be done to it. Blower/supercharger, CAI, hot cam, exhaust, headers, torque converter, ported and polished cylinder heads, etc. Thanks for the help!!!

If you are trying to make your car faster, why are you considering 22" wheels? Bigger rims hurt performance, and ultra thin sidewalls often result in damaged wheels, rough ride, and reduced acceleration. Go with 20" or 21" wheels, you can still make them wider than stock. They will be lighter and the taller sidewalls will help give traction when accelerating and provide a bit more cushioning against the bumps of the road.

I've never done this before ... but check out our sponsor, TireRack.com. There is a link and phone number just above your post. Tell them what you want to do, and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

I appreciate your response! Thats actually what I decided on doing, going with the 20" but just a wider wheel in the rear. Too bad they dont have the stock wheels in an 11. I think they look the best and I really wouldnt change it if I didnt have to. I know it would hurt performance anyway. And I will definitely check out TireRack, thanks for that.

You could get your stock rims professional widened. There are a few companies that I have seen out there, but I can't think of the names offhand. I know people that have done it with great results. I don't think it's very expensive.

You can get the stock wheels widened... pretty much cut the stock rim in half, weld in a two inch strip and weld the rim back together... a little pressure testing and some balancing... all you need after that is a spacer (due to the fact that the strip is needed on the inside of the rim so you need to push the tire out).

i know i have seen at least one member here do it.... i would try searching the wheels and tires threads...
