Not a rare thing. I typically have to hold the lever when getting gas. The CA pumps are very different and the way the Camaro gas inlet is designed, it causes an issue. So, it's part the design and part CA pumps - they have a 2nd hose to suck out the fumes as you put gas in. There have been several threads on this topic. It's just the way it is. It's rare that I can fill her up without holding the lever. usually, angling to the rear helps a bit...as suggested in the provocative comments above

Oh, Welcome to the site Fshryd!!

I was just complaining about the same issue, I unfortunately also live in NJ and I have had this problem on a daily basis, not only that I am going to have to cut the plastic string off of the gas cap b/c when they remove it and try to hang it on the hook on the inside of the gas door it always falls off and slams into quarter panel and it upsets me to say the least...

I find this hard to believe when I have been able to fill every car I've ever owned without this problem. The only time I had this problem was with a company owned Ford service body truck. If the gas is backing up into the sensor causing it to shut down, it is an engineering issue where the fill tube is not designed properly allowing an unimpeded flow of fuel to the tank.

For you to say it is NOT an issue with the car is incorrect. If 100 cars ahead of me can fill their tank without issue and I pull up in the Camaro and it takes 30 minutes to fill because it keeps shutting the pump down, it IS an issue with the car/fill tube. If it were just the nozzle, the 100 cars ahead of me would shut the pump down too. Just Saying

No problems with the Camaro, but was in Vegas a couple weeks ago and our rental Charger did that when I went to fill it up. Took forever pumping a few cents at a time. I tried putting it in a little, a lot, pumping slow, pumping fast, etc...

I'm in Southern California and I prefer Chevron high octane but I have been unable to get an uninterrupted fill at any Chevron station. The Mobil and Shell stations are fine - no problem filling up. But when I go to Chevron I can only put $25 in at a time because it takes almost 10 minutes to get just the right position and pressure to get an uninterrupted fill.

By the way, I had no problems with pumping BP or 7-Eleven gas in Las Vegas.

Strange? I have to make sure mines all the way in. If the seal around the nossle pushs it out it kicks off everytime.

How can you say it is not an issue with the car. In my previous three vehicles, all GM products that were 3 years old or less, this problem only occured once or twice when it was a pump malfunction. With my Camaro it happens on a regular basis at several gas stations. Ironically the Pontiac G8 which was also enginered by Holden in Australia has the same problem.

Apparently the design of the fill hole on the car is not compatible with all of the various pumps out there.

Same things happens to me at every gas station I go to. I try all the different angles. I have to hold the gas nozzle the entire time or else the pump will shut off.

I feel the same way. I don't like it making contact with my car's body.
