Ok, what are the consequences of running the stock recommended weight oil in a supercharged car? I know it can't be good, but I'm just wondering how bad.

Gm bearings are soft

Detonation is hard on bearings

More load on the bearings than what gm intended

have you seen 5w-30 at 220-240 degrees?

Yup... it's like water.....

the thicker oil (15W50) sticks to parts better.

Crap, I just got my oil changed before I put the s/c on. Maybe I'll change it again before summer hits with those 90+ temps.

Xw-XX, can someone explain to me what all this numbers mean. And so, if I am running a sc ss, then I should be using 15-50?

15W50 is this:

15 Weight (when cold) 50 (weight when warm.)

The W is for the word "weight" which is used to seperate the viscosity level of the oil from when it's measured cold and hot.

Changing mine today and ran across this thread...great info!!

With two different, proven builders running 15w50...looks like that's what I'll do today as well!

Thanks...this is why Camaro5 is the best!!! Great info!!!

All done!

Would anyone recommend going back to 5w30 for the cooler months or stick with the 15w50 year round?

I'm in San Antonio so cold cold winters are not a problem...though it did get below freezing here a couple times this past winter.

Thinking 15w50 Mar - Sep and then 5w30 Oct - Feb...thoughts?

Thanks!!
