Yes, and considering the 300C and Magnum SRT8 appeared in 2004.............. The point is, it is more than just the dyno showing these things, heck, even the VIpers are putting out more than 600 HP these days (one of the mags tested it and the ZR1 on the sameday on the dyno and the RWHP is almost identicle, guess you are saying the ZR1 is overrated (don't think so). The fact is, cars still make it out of the showroom floor underrated, there are still factory freasks (and always will be), and there is always going to be some variation from car to car in any given model. Oh and I am not saying every SRT8 can do that, or every 5th gen is going to be able to run 12.6, or every 4th gen able to run 12.9, or every terminator able to run 12.3. |

You guys realize this thread has been derailed and none of these post will actually help the OP decide on what car to buy. He's going to use it as a DD, not run quarter miles all day... Give some opinions that really matter. And even then, by now its too late as the OP is probably already signing papers.

oh boy here we go again...the challenger threads are the most heated i think even more so than the mustang threads, which is the natural enemie of the camaro! what amazes me most is both camaro and mustang guys are so quick to gang up on the challenger any time the opportunity arises. why?
anyways, i'm going to cut straight to the point. i am not a challenger owner that thinks my car is the fastest thing in the world and understand that i am at a major disadvantage with the extra weight of my R/T and i'm sure many wont believe me and will cry "fanboy" but these are facts that have happend in REAL LIFE and not bench racing: -the auto challengers are consistantly quicker in the 1/4 mile than the 6-speed R/T's. -stock auto R/T's are hitting low 13's, most are mid 13 sec cars with people that can drive( i can post links to a thread on the hated challengertalk board that has peoples slips posted, but anytime that page is mentioned, its automatically thrown out the window because of a few hardcore guys that think the challenger is the be all end all of automobiles) -the R/T is dynoing at 330-335hp at the wheels which shows that its actually around 395-400hp at the crank, hence being able to propell the 2 ton "boat" to mid-low 13's and making it a MUCH closer race between the L99 and the R/T than a lot of guys want to believe. thats where these "magical" numbers are coming from for you bench racers out there. make sure you factor in that extra hp when entering it into drag calculators. -i have been able to beat my buddy's 07 WRX STI stock for stock 3 out of 4 times we went, and those are mid-low 13 second cars -driver means EVERYTHING i see how off topic i am to the OP, but wanted to step in and correct so much of the bias/uninformed/wrong/bench racing information on this thread. opinions on styling are a different thing and is pointless to comment on because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

http://www.challengertalk.com/forums...ck-times-6689/ http://www.challengertalk.com/forums...le-list-31923/ for those that see "challengertalk" and will automatically bring up the "kills" thread, these are official 1/4 times with slips posted. only problem is you gotta weed out the R/T times cause there are SRT times mixed in there.

330 at the wheels is roughly 37x at the crank. The car is not under rated, if going by 12% drivetrain loss.
I guess you could use 15% drivetrain loss and take the cream of the crop dyno of your choice to sway the numbers in favor of the RT. But in reality this is just wishful thinking. LS3 cars have dynoed anywhere from the 350's up into the 390's. Do I think they are under rated....nope. Any major differences one way or another is just a variance in the dyno or the weather on the given day. With the SAE certifiaction process and build tolerances used today one car shouldnt vary from another more than about 5-10hp. |

Post what the corrected altitude was for those low 13 sec. runs along with tailwind. Back OT...I looked at the Challengers when I was ready to get a new ride and move on from the Caliber SRT4. The Camaro was hands down the winner in performance and the ride is very good. This is a $30K plus decision you don't want to mess up. There is a reason the Camaro is the #1 pony car in sales. Almost 4:1 when compared to the Challenger. |
