That Trans Am on the HotRod mag cover is the best one developed yet and is the closest to any to being what an actual Trans Am would should've looked like. But the Firebird died for good with Pontiac. A Chevy Camaro badged as a Trans am is just plain out dumb.

I wonder if any of these companies have paid for the right to use the Trans Am name. If not, they be getting sued pretty soon. There is a per vehicle fee that must be negociated with the trademark holder. GM had a sweet deal only paying $10 or so for each car, but that deal expired when production stopped.

RICE, as bad as putting a Z28 badge on a 5th gen IMO.

The name Trans Am may have fallen into public domain since the race no longer exists?

Either way, I don't see it as rice. Making an SS into a T/A is customization. Rice is putting fast-looking body parts onto a car that can't back them up.

Everyone here is so quick to post 'RICE' any time a car is modified. I thought the whole point of calling a car rice was that the owner put badges or otherwise indicated that the car was faster than it was. If that Camaro modified to look like a Trans Am is fast I don't see how you could call it rice.

I know a lot of people that would modify a challenger to look like a cuda and I wouldn't dog on any of them for it so why dog on someone that wants to make their camaro look like a trans am. It's not like they're putting corvette badges on it...

It does look good, but something just doesn't seem right with Pontiac dead.

I don't think it's "Rice" as some have said, To me it is more of a kit car- because you will never be able to have the TA (RIP Pontiac)-- So this is a chance to build one.

If you go to LS1.com-- probably 30% of the Z28s and Trans Ams have SS/ WS6 hoods on it. That too isn't "rice" IMO.

It is a look that you like, so you put it on your car.

There is a guy on this board, and our G8 boards. That has converted his G8 into the Aussie Version. That to me isn't rice, it is simply a kit/ conversion.

Originality is too often deemed as ricey.

I would say I went a bit to far as to call it rice ,but trans ams are very special to me, and I just don't like to see it someone is trying for something that's it's not. The really funny thing is that are copying one of the slowest years of trans ams ever made. That would be like GM building the 2010 camaro based off of the 78 Z/28. That would have gotten laughed right out of Detroit.

Yeah, but those Trans AM in the 70's were some of the coolest looking cars ever, at least to me. Specifically, the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am. That is a cool car!!!

I've had a lot of trans ams ,but I never got the black smokey and the Bandit ones because every Italian with a Pizza shop in a 100mile radius had one because of Rocky. My favorite one was one I smashed up. I was a 79 with a 403 big block and a 4sp manual. Yellow with red and orange bird. Pretty car, but one of the slowest cars I've ever owned. I think the company that makes the 69 retro car did a much better job and with a lot more note worthy trans am.
