With ~8% tax here in NYC, a 2SS/RS auto will hit $40,000. Whew!

Are there any other states in the northeast with a lower tax rate or do you have to pay tax under the state where the car is registered anyway?

You have to pay taxes where the car is registered.

Usually... unless you somehow claim residency in another state and can register it there (military, work in multiple states, etc), or your state doesn't have sales tax

The first years sales will be the best. I bet no more than 40,000 are sold in it peak.

When is GM going to learn. A V8 base version should have been priced around $26k not $31k.

The people that have been waiting since 02 (like myself), will buy them, but they will not attract new buyers with those prices.

With tight credit and a recession, no one is going to be able to get them.

But, just wait until March of 2010 when they are $5k off

Actually the V8 isn't targeted at the average person. It's more for enthusiasts and people who want maximum performance. The bread and butter for GM is actually the V6. It's a great car for the price and they expect the bulk of the sales to be there, especially with our current gas prices and economy. Plus you don't sacrifice the "coolness" factor of the car when buying the V6 over the V8. I believe that's why the V6 has been the focal point of most car shows/unveilings. Just my $.02.

2LT + RS is up there. 2SS/RS seems like a good price. I think the best thing to do is get a 1SS/RS

wow, I wouldn't have guessed this many people would be dissapointed with the pricing - I couldn't be happier! I remember when the GTO came out, people were paying over 40k for them, I was seriously braced today to see the same. But why the dissapointment? There is not one car sold today that can beat the SS performance wise for the price

For the people who had their hearts set on a new SS who think they can't afford them now, take a gander at the prices of a used C5 z06... Similar performance and there's quite a few going these days for well under $30k

the sick thing is we in Canada have to pay at least $12-$15k more than US for any average car, its funny how some people are not happy with these prices, we would be jumping all over the place in excitement if we ever had these prices.
we get ripped off huge for every new car

I don't know for sure...but I think I will have to not go with the SS... but the V6 isn't bad...it's just that I really wanted the SS and I'm kinda dissapointed...it's just that the price of the car is fine...its just when tax, title, etc. is added is when it gets to high for me

I think we all need to keep in perspective how good of a deal this is. My MSRP for my 2006 G6 GTP was $28,315 (i still have the pic I took of the sticker in my phone) and it only has 240hp and not as many cool options as the Camaro, IMO. Plus, the quality really isn't anything to write home about. It's been in the shop 3 times for the panoramic sunroof and has multiple squeaks and rattles. To get a fully loaded V6 2010 Camaro for not much more than that, if the quality is there, is a great deal. Unfortunately, things aren't cheap these days so when you compare the price to everything else out there, it's a good value.

Where else are you going to buy a 422HP car with everything the Camaro SS1 has on it for that price?
In fact where are you going to find a 300HP 6Speed car with everything the LS has on it for $23K?
Look hard, you won't find many if any...
