Well I am going to be trading in my 1LT, for a 2SS pretty soon, and I am confused about what the difference is between the LS engines. LS3?LS9? I have no idea, so if someone could explain this to me. that would be great

Well first off unless your going to replace your engine right off the bat the SS only comes with a LS3 with the standard transmission 426 hp or the L99 automatic which has 400hp. The LS9 unfortunately is not available from the factory.

if you are going to take the bullet and trade it in you may want to wait for the Z28 if you are mainly looking for performance. It will likely be supercharged, but there is no telling how long you may have to wait, you can check out the Z/28 forum for more info.

There's a sticky that tells the differences between the LS3 and L99. The LS3 is in the M6 and the L99 is the automatic. While the M6 does have the HP advantage, the auto has the consistency advantage. In the end, it comes out about the same, as far as racing goes. If you like to shift gears all the time, get the M6. If you do a lot of stop and go traffic traveling, the A6 might be a better choice. In the end, it's up to you.

theres not just an LS9 there an LS1 LS7 ive heard of a LS5 all it means is that they are different types and sizes of motors... theres prolly more than that thats just all ive heard of

Don't forget, there is also the V6 w/ an automatic transmission too. You can't get an LS7 or LS9 from the factory in the Camaro.

If I am not mistaken, the L99 also has active fuel management (AFM) and only comes in the 1SS or 2SS with an automatic transmission. LS3 cars do not have the AFM.

AFM is the system that shuts off half of the cylinders for fuel economy.

i didnt mean specifically for the 5th gen camaro or even a camaro just theres a shit ton of differant motors made by GM

There's no such thing as an auto v6. They all come with three-speed column shift.
