but how big of a deal will the V6 rumble be over a sexy V8 rumble?
I have been dying for a sports car ever since I was younger....I always wished for that beautiful muscle car rumble.....so for me, it was no decision at all....had to be V8....

I love the environment and gas savings but in a world overstuffed with civics ...I just want something with a little more 'meanness' to it ! (no offense to you civic owners).....hope this helps!

I was in a quandry the same as you. I changed my order from a 2lt to a 1ss.

After I changed my order, I was still uneasy. I can afford anything I want within reason. But I also like a value. I'm not going to race it on the street or strip. It is going to be an every day driver. I just want a car that looks good and sounds good and goes reasonably fast. The 2lt does that for about $7000 less than the 2ss. Am I going to have the fastest car in town? NO. Am I going to have a car that looks good, sounds good, is fast, and is fun to drive? HELL YES.

So...............I changed my order back to the 2lt, and I have had no 2nd thoughts.

When I take delivery of the car, if it dissapoints me I can sell it in the future and get the SS, but I don't think that is going to happen.

Now when the vert comes out............................................... .........lol

I really wanted the vert. But I can't wait till 2010 for it to come out. And I don't want to spend like 32000 on it either. I am fine with my 1LT/RS. Btw, are you getting the 2LT with the RS package or no?

Performance:

When I first researched the car, I saw 300 HP. Plenty powerful at first thought, but further research showed the cars huge weight and 0-60 time. Even if they get the car down to 5.9 seconds, that's still going to get beaten by a lot of cars, especially some embarrassing defeats (Cobalt SS).

There have been a lot of posts like this lately and they are driving me crazy (not to offend anyone). If you are buying the V6 and are concerned about "embarrassing defeats" then why did you order it? That's like me saying " Jeez, why can't my Evo beat the Z06", I would never expect it to (Likes to trounce Mustang GT's though).

Now off my rant... I'm with everyone else. Go with your first choice, unless... what I quoted was true. In that case get the SS

No rs, I didn't want the 20" wheels, and I want the blade spoiler. After the 19's wear out, I will probably try to find some retro 18" wheels. (Trying to make it look more like my 69 Z/28)

That's what I've been thinking. Completely agree.

It's a Camaro...it's hard to justify it being a true muscle car while not being as fast as certain cars. Just something that would bother me a little. I've not even going to race the car, I just like the satisfaction of knowing I could and it would win.

That's all I needed to read. If that's high on your list of important things in a car...then get the SS, plain and simple. Money doesn't seem to be an issue since you'd otherwise get a 2SS/RS...so go ahead and get that.

My philosophy is that there's always going to be a faster car, so all I'm concerned with in my purchase is if I enjoy the car. If that happens to be the V6, then cool!

If making sure other cars don't beat you is important enough to mention, then I'd recommend you get the SS.

Am I going to get that with a V6 and be able to keep impressing people with it for years?
This V6 'base' car is changing the landscape of performance, quite frankly -- where else can you get a 'base' car as well equipped in terms of handling and performance?

I'm sorry to offend, but if people scoff or get disappointed simply because you say "6" instead of "8", then I think all they care about is the "V8" whether its fast or not. So I tend to not put a lot of stock in their opinions -- dealing with them comes with the territory of buying the LT.

Besides that a sense of pride should come from YOU, not everyone else...but keep in mind the "wow"-factor disappears the minute something better comes out. And from there, age is your only hope for "wow", be it the V6 or the SS....

In terms of importance, it's last on my list...performance and cost are one and two. But yes, looks do matter, and everyone likes to turn some heads.
I drive a Honda Civic...absolutely nothing special. I drive it because it's cheap to own while I'm in law school and can be fun in the corners. I am going to get an a new Camaro in the next year because I have loved the gen 1 Camaros since I can remember and its as close as I can get to one. I love the opportunity to get 422hp for under 40k and the car looks amazing....to ME. Others don't care for it and don't get the need for that much power. Screw them its for me. It's going to be my toy, not there's. Don't like it, you don't have to ride in it.

What anyone else thinks about what I drive matters absolutely none to me. Appreciation for the car by others is nice, but doesn't cross my mind when looking for something to drive. Everyone enjoys sharing the experience with others, but when it comes down to it, the joy the car gives the owner while they are behind the wheel is all that should matter. If you are buying the car to impress others, you are posing and buying for the wrong reasons. Sorry to sound like an asshole, but I just don't get EVER buying something for someone else to gawk at. If it makes you happy, what's the difference if someone else gives you shit for not having two more cylinders.

Just a point about the world we live in; if someone gives you shit for not driving the V8, odds are they just jealous of the car as it is and have to find something about that's not perfect to make themselves feel better. The person is either not mature enough to appreciate the car for what it is, or is too blind to allow himself to appreciate because he wishes it was his.

I am going to go with the 1LT with the RS package. Still not sure what color to go with. The inferno orange or the dark blue. I like the orange, it stands out.

Once again, I'm not saying that people give me crap for not getting a V8, especially friends. They actually want me to get the V6 pointing out the overall money I'll save. To car enthusiasts I've talked to, yes, they are disappointed I'm not getting the V8...only because they've driven many cars and point out just how much more fun a V8 is. They still stay congrats on the V6 though.

Either way I'm going to be happy. If it turns heads though, it's like the cherry on top of my sundae.

A lot of people think it looks amazing. I know you'll argue otherwise but if you were the only one who liked how it looked you wouldn't want one. Being told your car looks awful by everyone after spending 30k+ on it would piss you off. However, like I said earlier, what others think is the last thing on my list in importance...but I live in the real world, and it's still something to take into account.
