Motortrend posted up an all out comparison between the three cars (SRT8 for dodge since the R/t doesnt really compare).

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/index.html

obviously the mustang wins, and it DID have the glass roof option. the mustang still handedly trumped the competition when it came to acceleration. but that was 99% because of its gearing advantage.

IMO the only situation where the mustang truly DOMINATES is handling.
(the reason why i got it over the camaro)
Before the hordes jump on this as being unfair..the Camaro was the LS3 M6 and not the L99 A6. In fact..all three were manuals in this fight.

I hate they had the dang glass roof option. I am sure that adds unnecessary weight.

But a 12.7 @ 111.3 was pretty impressive.

I'm sure it adds alot of weight, probably close to 20 pounds, if not more. I personally wouldnt feel ..safe in a car, with that much power, with that much glass over my head. Solid roof for me please!

Glass roof option adds 24 pounds, and I also didnt opt for it due to safety. Its really not much larger then a sunroof in a SUV.

The SRT8 tested was an auto with 3.90 gears.

I completely agree with their opinion's on the cars tested. I believe this is their honest opinions because I feel the same way. I like all three and all three are different and have strong pro's and con's. Before 2011 MY the 4.6L Mustang GT has always been looked upon as a BIG joke due to is consistant lower hp/tq compared to the LSX's. I didnt even consider them a worthy opponent unless they were boosted. Now with the 5.0L I think they have the ultimate pony car. The camaro is still a bad ass car but is more like a 2 door CTS and G8 then a honest light weight easy to flick around pony car.

Magazine comparisons are nothing more than glorified opinions of the authors. They can vary as much as any normal person's opinion, as well as be just as biased than a person.

You do Autocross or something?

Very impressive results for the Mustang, but we are again seeing trap speeds within 0.5 mph of the LS3 Camaro, so if you look at the data, the difference is all in the 60' time (which the mags never give for some reason). Notice the Challenger is down about 5mph from both cars, that tells me they are closer to that car's potential ET (this was the 5 speed auto challenger).

I think the gearing disparity is the most glaring issue that GM needs to address, hopefully this has been in process and will be ready for the 2011's with some 3.90's.

Doesn't the GT500 weigh more than the Camaro? You mention your preference for a lighter pony car, I don't think the GT500 really qualifies.

The 2011 GT500 is lighter than the 2010 SS.

They dropped around 105 lbs on the new GT500 mainly by switching to the aluminum block.

Man i hate the blackout pannels and lights on the new mustangs...they seem to be the 'vogue' mods that people are making, and they all look worst than the vanilla -- IMHO of course.

I don't like the blackout panel on the new V6 version for 2011 either.

Read the article, the SRT8 was a 6 speed with the 3.91 gears, the 5 speed auto on the data shett is a misprint, also, all autos come with 3.06 rears. That said Ford did great things with the Mustang. FInally a same test same day, the 5.0 was 4/10ths quicker than the SS and the SS 2/10s quicker than the SRT8.

Very nice, I need to worry about those 5.0's with good drivers now! They should have used a Challenger R/T though. That's not fair to Camaro owners. The Camaro is clearly the second best of the three cars overall. Depending on what they do for 2011 it could regain it's spot on top.
