Exactly .. They will never put more HP in the Camaro than the Vette.. It's very simple to get a CAI and a tune and already be ahead of the Stock Vette's HP .. I beleive if anyone that is that Concerned that the Mustang might be a few 10ths faster they will probably just add some mod's anyway .. and I think the 6.2 has a lot more in it than the 5.0 .. the Stang already comes stock with headers .. it's probably almost maxed out stock already.

Long tube headers will still add power coming from those shorties... it does on every car i've read about.

I disagree with the whole Vette vs. Camaro argument. In theory it might seem to make sense, but IMO two separate market segments. Lets be honest, 430hp in a Vette is totally different than 430hp in a Camaro. Any objection a Corvette owner has to the Camaro having equal or greater hp is only on paper (numbers), not on the street.

GM has a number of engine options available, one being the LSA or perhaps a factory supercharged LS3 option with forged lowers, although the second option has to effect price. I gotta think that right now they don't want to steel the Z28's thunder, so I don't expect to see any changes before the final decisions are made regarding its' power plant.

I really don't expect to see any response from GM before 2012.....prove me wrong GM, prove me wrong!

Yeah, as long as the spark plugs don't pop out like they're prone to do on those heads. Something about the spark plug holes being tapped to only 2-3 threads deep makes that happen. My buddy has the choice of either putting new heads on OR putting new heads on. So yeah, those are fast....until they lose a spark plug or two.

Mustang has always been known as the poor mans hot rod.

If you buy a mustang in 2011 you get a 5.0 that is pretty maxed out from shop as is. Like the 2007 350z i had theyll have to go with some sort of boost to gain power, intakes, headers, ect just wont do that much.

on the other hand the 2010 camaro responds very well to mods becuase chevy didnt max out the engine from factory. So mod a camaro kill the stangs ............ let the circle of life continue.

Nope 98 started the LS1 run.

That is a very rare problem.

I have seen the cars handle over 700rwhp for years, still going today, without ever having to take the heads off the car. A few are 800+rwhp without ever removing the heads. The 03/04 Cobra motors are the strongest motors ever put in a factory pony car.

Just an example. In 2000 i had a Mustang GT, No match for the SS and Ws6( with the mighty LS1)

Yet i put a few bolt ons on. And guess what.? i was faster than all kinds of Ls1's...not everytime, but most. One LS1 guy said "thats a first".
my smart alack response was "get used to it." Hell i was faster than most Cobra's( always a real GM guy at Heart)

A balanced bolt on , and good clutch modulation. and all bet are off.+ ( good reflexes, unlike now, lol)

you think those LS1's had no mods? unlikely.

that Mustang motor is a good motor. complex, not a simple pushrod. My SS looks good the SC is awesome.

remeber the GT500 barely clips the SS in Stock OEM trim. doesn't it have 540hp? 12.8 vs 12.9

displacment does count, so does a tune. and the GM has more in it OEm to play with.

Not quite.

The Camaro is the one with that reputation, mostly because GM priced the Camaro to get under the Mustang.

The Mustang HAS been known as the most common of the pony/muscle cars, because it is.

so is there any actual evidence that shows that the camaro has more potential than the 5.0 mustang? The 11 mustang is barely out...now i know the theory is viable because (don't shoot me) i remember back when i played gran turismo i could only get the camaro's and mustangs to 500 or 600 hp while for some reason you could tune those skylines to like 1000 hp...i always that that wasn't fair because you couldn't add turbos to the mustangs or camaros in that game? was it because they were naturally aspirated?

(i'm not a gearhead just asking questions)

The Camaro has more potential. Their simply is no replacement for displacement. But this is talking about taking each of these motors to their maximum potential and would not be a motor you could drive on the street.

I just would want to be able to beat the .2 0-60 seconds the 11 mustang has and maybe make the camaro handle a little better

how much and what kind of mods?

Wouldn't take much for the acceleration aspect. 200-250 lb weight advantage can be equalized with 25-30 more hp. So basic bolt-ons(like exhaust) and a tune should get you close or over.

I'm not sure on the handling of the 5th gens. You might have better luck with some of the Camaro guys on here.
