This only matters to some people

but, I started to head away from Camaro and into Mustang due to two things. Lower weight, and great rear and side visibility including a blind spot monitor. Then to my disgust, I discovered the 2011 Mustang 500 GT has a slush box for an auto tranny. Clearly a high quality modern slush box but it has no driver interface such as paddle shifters or a Tiptronic. That was the deal breaker for me. All I need to know is, "do Formula1 drivers long for manuals?" The answer is no. The modern select shift in almost all well designed cars, will beat a manaul. My suspicion is that Ford didn't offer it because an old fashinoed auto gives tne manufacturer great control over fuel mileage and helps their overall average. Just my opinion.

I'm not sure on the handling of the 5th gens. You might have better luck with some of the Camaro guys on here.
The added weight is mainly due to a super stiff chassis. From talking to a few 5th gen SS track enthusiasts, making a few simple suspension mods (spings and sways) gives the Camaro exceptional handling.

don't confuse being able to control the auto to better performance. just about all of the fastest camaro times have been shifted automatically by the transmission computer. the camaro 6spd automatic is no F1 transmission.

selecting you're own gears on a standard auto is just gimmicky and there's no fun in shifting with paddle shifters.

I still cannot understand why Mustang fans feel they have to defend their choice of cars on a site devoted to Camaros. I guess I never will. Semper Fi was asking if GM will answer back? Of course they will. Direct Injection, lighter weight, who knows? And then Ford will start squawking about their Taurus SHO tech and how a small V6 with DI and TT will lead us all to a utopia of power and lower gas consumption and guess what? We still WON'T CARE! We LOVE CAMAROS. And nobody is interested in "My 93 can beat your 97GT but not your 03 Cobra but maybe with a push I can stay up with a 06 GT500". The majority of us are not race car drivers and can't hit consistent drag times. We think our cars look better, perform better and don't need an internal hard drive to be worth our money. You know what car has a hard drive AND a glove compartment that can chill a soda? A Dodge Caliber! Who gives a crap? No one is going to go trade their SS for a Mustang unless they really care about being beaten in a HP war and then good riddance because they aren't true camaro fans anyway, they just want to stand around with the other boys and say "ha ha mine's bigger".

Good point. There's a reason most Mustang fans didn't switch to Camaro last year after the GT was outclassed: they are Mustangs fans and will always be Mustang fans. Camaro fans will always be Camaro fans. GM and Ford will always strike back at each other. So far the result is that we can drive bone stock cars that cost less than $40K that get to 60 mph in less 5 seconds and the 1/4 mile in less than 13 seconds.

The same thing has happened between GM and Dodge with the Corvettes and Vipers. Because of the performance war between these two companies you can go buy an exotic car killer for less $100K (Z06 or SRT10 Coupe) or for just a little more buy one of the fastest cars in the world (ZR1 or Viper ACR).

Once again, I say God Bless America.

Thank you sir.

And The Brander is right, we reap the benefits from these feuds, so thank you Mustang buyers. We all enjoy the power, handling and styling of these cars and they are getting cheaper as companies develop new technologies but you can't tell a guy who owns a 69 SS your 2010 is better better because it plays this and that digital media, because that's not why he loves his car. All cars have that special something that makes them "the best". For me, I'd trade my SS for a 70 Chevlle SS 454 but unless someone is crazy and wants to do that, I believe my car is a close 2nd.

Yes no offense meant. I was actually looking at these years ago, long before I saw the Camaro Concept. Used as a point of reference only, not a slight

If you buy a mustang in 2011 you get a 5.0 that is pretty maxed out from shop as is. Like the 2007 350z i had theyll have to go with some sort of boost to gain power, intakes, headers, ect just wont do that much.

on the other hand the 2010 camaro responds very well to mods becuase chevy didnt max out the engine from factory. So mod a camaro kill the stangs ............ let the circle of life continue.
Do you have documentation on the new engine from ford being maxed out I would like to check out the details. link?

my smart alack response was "get used to it." Hell i was faster than most Cobra's( always a real GM guy at Heart)

A balanced bolt on , and good clutch modulation. and all bet are off.+ ( good reflexes, unlike now, lol)

you think those LS1's had no mods? unlikely.

that Mustang motor is a good motor. complex, not a simple pushrod. My SS looks good the SC is awesome.

remeber the GT500 barely clips the SS in Stock OEM trim. doesn't it have 540hp? 12.8 vs 12.9

displacment does count, so does a tune. and the GM has more in it OEm to play with.
Just wanted to let you know for future reference, the magazines got the 2010 gt500 into the 11's not sure where you got the 12.8 as a staple to what that cars runs, but for future disagreements you might get into ya know

He's basing that off of a video of a run between the SS and GT500. The GT500 couldnt grip to save its life and ran a 12.8.

Most of the time Camaro owners use that, as opposed to the low 12/high 11 times that the GT500 actually turns out with grip.

No worries man. That was my attempt at humor. Driving a caliber, you have to have a sense of humor or you'll end up crying yourself to sleep at night. It's actually not that bad if you don't count the transmission issues, plastic interior parts falling off, rust spots and exterior vinyl detail peeling. Oh but I do have a problem with acceleration sometimes.
