I got my SCT X3 Tuner and Custom Tune from Ted. He got the job done with it. The customer service is exceptional. Ted personally handled walking me through step-by-step with the necessary procedure to use the tuner. The tune woke the car up. I have never used EFILive, HPTuners, nor do i know how to use them to make my own calibrations. SCT was the right choice for me because it was plug and play. I plugged it in, downloaded my factory flash, emailed it to Ted, he then sent me a custom tune made specifically for the upgraded parts i installed on my car that took 10 minuted to upload to my car. No more skip shift, speed governor, fans come in a little earlier at higher RPM, and a bunch of other little goodies.

My best advice is that if you dont know how to do your own ecm tuning, get a handheld from Jannetty and discuss what you want. Its not worth the damage you risk doing to your car by making changes that you dont have experience with by using efilive or hptuners on your own. Im sure that software is just as effective and can do anything a handheld can. (like ted mentioned earlier in this thread) but for me it was as easy as plugin, download, email, upload, plugin! Thats it. I dont know the first thing of ECM tuning. And if i dont have to learn, im not going to. I paid for the tuner and Ted will adjust my tune as i make changes to my car. (ie cam, supercharger, heads,...etc, etc) Thats good enough for me. Im happy with the results on my car

I have talked to a few different shops. Most tell me to use the HP tuner. My car came with the SCT X3, so I was having a hard time going away from it. I spoke to Ted Jannetty, he assured me that the SCT X3 is a great tuner. I purchased my headers CAI and pulley from Jannetty included a tune. I installed all parts then the tune. Wow!! I am extremely happy with performance of tune. I am going to try and put it on a dyno within the week to see where I am now.Car was at 451 RWHP. I will post results.

So basically this device is used to flash in a mail order tune? Geez guys... $40K on a new Camaro and run a mail order tune? No wide band to set the Af???

If theres one thing all pro tuners say its that same car, same parts, DIFFERENT TUNE each car needs its own specific tune to not only perform but to run safely as well.

For you stock guys out there sure a mail order tune is fine but for anyone swapping cams and those level of mods you really need to take it in to Janetty or another shop and at least get the af dialed in...

Yikes

Ditto, if you're in the midwest Livernois Motorsports in Dearborn, MI. would be my #1 recommendation. Extremely professional, courteous and they know their muscle cars.

Haha, yes. If/when I get cams, I'd without a doubt go to my buddies at Sound Performance. But until then, I'm sure the tune Jannetty provides will be plenty.

So if I currently have bolt ons with no tune but plan on doing heads/cam in the near future, is there ANY reason why I would buy a handheld tuner? Aren't I better off getting a dyno tune? Or can the SCT and Diablosport be useful in dyno tuning as well?

I still remember back when Hypertechs and Predators were useless and did more harm than good and everyone had their cars tuned on the dyno with LS1Edit. Now times have changed obviously.

No way a car with a stock cam is making 451rwhp. Either that was a typo, or the dyno is way out of calibration.

Yes, with the Newest Software it makes it very Easy for us to remote tune car once you own a Handheld tuner.

I can actually Dyno tune your car remotely, all you need to do is rent some dyno time and typically you just have to check to make sure we are hitting our timing and fueling goals.

Ted.

A mail order tune on a FI car? Sounds smart.
