Shutting of DRL's
Not sure if the same technology was used, but VW, yea Volkswagen installed a switch in the hand brake by pulling it up one click, it does not engage the brake, but shuts off the DRL's. Dont know if it will work on the camaro, but give it a try. I've worked in auto business for 10 years, you'd be surprise at the ideas they all copy. Hope it helps.

Its easy, i just did this yesterday,
First Pop out the switch (you dont need a special tool just use youre nails on one side). once you got it out, remove the back cover( you can use a small screw driver to pry it), Be carefull not to loose the 2 small springs that will come out there will be a round spring (that surrounds the dial), all you need to do is cut the end of the spring, this will allow you to set the dial to off with out the knob returning it back to auto. Just leave it in the off position and turn them on manually when you need to. it took me like 5 minutes. No more DRL

is it really that difficult to turn the car on and then just turn the lights to the left to turn the DRL's/auto lights off?
i've had cars with this feature and i didn't like running the DRL's and all i did was turn the knob to the left (it comes back to the off position like it's on a spring or something) but it turns them off. then at night, i didn't do anything and the headlights came on automatically.

This is just what I was looking for, I for one hate automatic lights. When its dark out, I'll turn the lights on, just like I've always done in my '91 and '95. I went the extra step and removed the spring instead of cutting it, this way, I can re-install it if I ever wanted to for some reason. Thanks for sharing this method! |

Hey guys,
Thanks for the insight. I just ordered my HID kit and did not want my headlights lit up all the time. I want to be able to turn them on when I want. I have a question though.... When we turn our dial to the left to turn off the DRL's, then push the button, our grille, and fogs come on. Does this still happen with the spring removed?? Thanks. Andre |

There is a better way...
1ss non-RS - NO AUTO LIGHT - FOGS AS DRL 1.) Ground the green pin at switch or BCM (turns off Auto lights) 2.)Go under hood and use a spdt relay at fuse panel to send power to the fogs when car is on and when HL are off... I will finish this when ACC gets their SH8t together and sends me the right fogs.. |

I have an RS so I can't answer your question, but I like your PITA acronym. By the way, PETA also means pain in the azz!

There has to be a way of running the DRL power feed from the headlights to the driving lights.

I can disable the DRL's through programming and probably remap them to other lamps without issue.

This is the only way.. DRL uses same output as HL in normal use. The BCM is programmed to react to light sensor and switch. So all this crap is softcoded into BCM.. I cant even find the damn HL fuses!!
