If you could buy the STI for mid $20's, it would make a GREAT daily driver. Especially in cold and wet climates. But, Subaru priced that econobox WAY outta their league in my opinion. For $32,000, you can buy a NEW 2009 Infiniti G35x. No Way the STI can compare to that car.
GM needs to drop a LS3 in the AWD Cadillac CTS. THe DI V6 should be the base CTS engine and the LS3 should be the optional engine. It broke my heart when GM failed to offer the LS3 in the CTS4 and forced me to buy my 1st import after buying 2 brand new C6's.

Guys I drive a Turbo Subaru Legacy GT and I was in the tuning of Subarus for the past few years. While the WRX/STi won't be direct sales competition it will be direct performance competition. There are crazy amounts of Import vs Domestic track nights.
I had my Legacy GT with a 5 speed Auto up to 317 AWD HP (thats at the wheels). It was pulling 4.3 ish 0-60 and 12.8 in the 1/4. Now stock it put down about 202 AWD HP so I did a lot of work to it but for very limited funds. 7 times out of 10 the new sti will beat the SS to 60 from a stop. The AWD in these cars allows the most remarkable launches. If the SS so much as chirps its tires at launch it lost. Now it will start to pull as the race continues due to the drag and AWD HP leech. But with just a tune from a handheld Cobb programmer (nevermind a protune) that Sti will be running 12's all day long. Never take a suabru or evo for granted if you pull up next to one. Chances are they are modded even just a little and it will hang if not toast even the new SS. I know I was in the business of making subarus beat V8's

God strike me down for this thought even occurring in my head, but I've been spending the last couple days looking into the 2009 Impreza WRX... I may even go and test drive one in the next couple of weeks....
Crazy thing is, the 09 Impreza WRX has a base of 24k which is around the base of the Cobalt SS Turbocharged I was possibly looking into getting vs a Camaro V6... The Camaro V6, even with my GM employee discount will cost like 4k more than the SS Turbo, but a 2LT w RS will cost w GMS pricing is going to cost around the same price for a 2009 WRX "Premium"... So... personally in my opinion based off of performance for price it's looking like this for me... 2010 Camaro SS > 09 Subaru Impreza WRX Premium > Cobalt SS/TC > Camaro 2LT W RS Seeing I know I can't afford the 2010 Camaro SS it's a 3 way tie between the Impreza WRX, Cobalt SS/TC, and Camaro 2LT w RS... So yeah I'd say the Impreza WRX sorta is indirect competition for the Camaro...

2010 Camaro SS has a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds (with a near or perfect launch...)
2009 Subaru Impreza STI has a 0-60 time of around 4.7-4.9 (from various car magazines) C&D got the 2009 Impreza STI to do 0-60 in 4.8 seconds... strangely enough they got the 09 Impreza WRX to hit 60 in 4.7... But from a dig... AWD > RWD, so majority of the time the AWD car is going to launch better vs a RWD car... which is probably what Mblock66 meant...

There have been plenty of vette owners to fall to an Evo or STI with just $1-2k of bolt-ons. Hell plenty of Porsche owners too. More or less the same now with the 135/335. Rated at only 300hp but yet it runs 4.7 to 60 stock. Slap a Dinan stage 2 on it (with warranty) or Proceed (without) and you are looking at some serious power.
If the Camaro was offered with AWD (it won’t be) I’d pay the extra 1-2k for it. Hell my snow tires and wheels willd cost more than that. |

Are we all forgetting about the camaro having launch control??? To those that are putting the sti's in the same category as evos, that is a joke because an evo with 1k-2k into it will spank any sti with the same amount invested. Not to mention the sti gearing sucks and has you shifting into fifth in the quarter. Does anyone know if you will be shifting into 5th in the camaro in the quarter? I have had one subaru in my life and I will never own another again, it was the biggest POS I have ever bought.

But I do agree that for straight line it's not the best... Oh and with the launch control, with 3rd party software you can add "launch control" to almost any car... The Cobalt SS/TC that has almost the same launch control that the Camaro SS has has been proven not to be the best, and it's been proven on the Cobalt forums that people are getting better launches and 1/4 times without even using launch control seeing that it just allows you to rev up to like 5-6k rps drop the clutch and take off...

And so my question remains, because it sounds like he found an import that did meet those criteria that he preferred. I am not trying to give him a hard time, I was just wondering what car he is referring to.
