Bottom line is this. Until the United States Government divests itself of the 61% of GM it owns they are still Government Motors. The ad campaign GM is running is misleading. They should be a shamed of themselves for trying to mislead the public.

I am very proud of GM - most people were very against them getting the government loan but did not take the time to think of the affects that it would have it they did not get it. Not only would the US have lost one of its most valuable companies and possibly the industry as a whole, but also millions of people would have lost thier jobs. Not only this, but if the US Government would have allowed GM to close the amount of tax revenues that would have been lost would have easily out weighed the amount of money they lent them.
Way to go GM - I think you are on the right path. I will admit that I think that GM did sway from the path of high quality cars and innovative designs but I am glad to see they are finding thier way back to the top of the industry. |

They have returned our beloved CAMARO to us and have seen a new light at the end of the tunnel. I am, always have been, and will continue to be a proud owner of General Motors products.
Well done GM and keep it up! |

I have to agree!
I've always been proud that Cadillac is the epitome of American class and refinement (as far as automobiles can go). But, there have been many years I thought less of Cadillac; their designs were blah or 'too edgy', imo. GM is moving in the right direction now, and their designs show it. When compared to the rest of the field... Caddy's stick out (in the best of ways). The 'other guys' have become the norm and look blah!

Their name is not "Government Motors", because calling them that seriously requires you to ignore a lot of facts... And the only thing in that ad was an announcement that they repaid the loans, and are better for receiving them. They did not tell the 'whole story', arguably because it would take a half-hour to deliver a simple summary of events...and TV commercials are expensive..... But they didn't lie or mislead anyone on a single point. |

I heard that the secured investors weren't really that impressed with the way things turned out. But I understand that GM had no control of that, so I can't blame them. It's just a bad situation for them.

GM paid the loans. The rest is up to the IPO and the government. The government can get rid of its stock at its own discretion. GM has no say in this. At this time, GM has exceeded its obligations by paying a loan with interest early. That's not only impressive but respectable and demonstrative of the company's success.
