I'll just post two stories from my career.

1) Guy loses control on a freeway, window down. He hits the jersey barrier at freeway speed. He's not wearing his seat belt and his face goes out of the window and hits the wall, he bleeds out and dies on the side of the freeway. With a seat belt? He'd have had a bruised chest.

2) 3 guys leave a bar, all drunk. Driver loses control, hits a jersey barrier. Both front seat passengers are wearing their seat belts.....sustain NO injuries. Back seat passenger is not wearing his seat belt, flies into the seat in front of him head first. His head pushes the seat forward. He ends up wedged on the floor between the front and back seat. He's now a quadraplegic due to a complete break of his spinal cord. Again, his two buddies in the front seat, where the actual impact was, had NO injuries.

But hey, what do I know.

I wouldn't recommend this but it is your life. Find a seatbelt eye from a junkyard that fits in the receptacle buckel and just leave it in.

I had a relative that got in an accident, and he never wore his seatbelt.... he was ejected and the truck demolished during the next few roll overs... verdict was that if he had worn it, he would be in the tiny box they call the truck cab.... without it, just a few scrapes...

Not trying to say don't wear it, but just letting you know there are positives of both sides..

Thats one of those .0001% chance of happening type of things. In most accidents the belt saves you. Air bags can, and will, break your neck if you dont have the belt on so definitely dont skip the belt thinking the bags will save you.

I cant imagine people NOT wearing seatbelts in this day and age with all we know how they save lives. It's like watching a pregnant woman smoking and drinking a few budweiser or ripping out that asbestos on the pipes downstairs yourself or letting your kids ride around there skateboards and bikes without a helmut, on and on and on

I'm sure you could find cases where someone that survived a suicide attempt wound up getting an early diagnosis on a life threatening disease while in the hospital. If so, I wouldn't characterize it by saying that there are positives to trying to kill yourself.

To many, it's a question of personal rights to use private property in any way that doesn't infringe on the rights of others. I guess you'd have to ride a Harley in Texas without a helmet to understand but lots of folks don't appreciate Government nannies...even if it's for their own good.
