I haven't changed mine yet(<800mi) but when I do, I'll be going Castrol Edge most likely. I've always run Castrol and never had an issue. I'll also be swapping tranny and rear end to RP.

That's not the only problem... The oil can also get dirty (I'd never go 25K miles on an oil filter) and can also become contaminated with water condensation. I'd never go past 10K miles or one year.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W30 because its GM approved and available at WalMart for $4.70/qt. I plan to change it yearly (which amounts to about 5000 miles for me).

I was at a local dealer yesterday and noticed several 55 gallon drums in the shop from GM marked synthetic 10-30. That was the only synthetic I saw so i'm guessing that is what you're gonna get no matter what you have! I doubt if there will be any differerance between 5-30 and 10-30. Any thoughts?

I thought I was the only one that did this.

Did my first change today at 1691 miles...Mobil 1 5W-30 Synthetic with a FRAM filter. My Walmart charged 23.98 for the first 5 qts and 6.28 for the extra quart...much higher than the rest of you. I suppose I should move.

think again. Regular Mobil 1 is not a true full synthetic oil. Mobil 1 EP is.

For the record I'm using Valvoline.

Wanna bet? Neither are true synthetics anymore. In addition, look at a VOA of both...the difference isn't enough to warrant the difference in price.

You need to put a call in to Mobil. Mobil 1 is a Group III and that is not a "true" synthetic. EP is NOT base 5 either.

Yep. This site shows through VOA's that the price difference isn't worth it between the two. EP is not "better" enough to warrant it. In fact, the UOA's show it doesn't perform much better either.
