![]() Check out the areas I circled closely and you can really see the "sand blasted" looking pattern with the really small chips. |

That T/U paint most likely comes from a different supplier than what is being used at the plant. For T/U purposes what you have will work great if applied correctly.

Here is something interesting: my first mil test was on my car. I used two different testers one is magnetic and the other electronic. Both had the same readings. I tested areas all over the car. My car has 9.5 mils of paint!!! The brand new Mercedes in our shop had 4.8 I believe my car may have gone through the paint process more than once. Today I am going to stop by the local GM dealer where 3 new ones are sitting and test them. Will keep you posted. |

Really? Well do you think it may be a prep problem or a bonding issue? I'm just really confused how, if my car also has that thick of paint, it could chip so easily. I'm scared to wash my car as often as I usually do haha dont want to find more chips. |

Dig this, the next 3 cars I tested were on our local dealer lot and they all had 8.6 mils as well as the new GM SUV sitting next to them. My production date is 8/09 (9+mils) the others are new arrivals. There is a early production camaro running around town and as soon as I test it I will let you know. You also need to know I tested 6 different areas on each car and the Gill area was one of them. I have a email into our paint manufacture rep asking for input.
Can you get yours tested? Since yours is chipping and mine is not (yet) I am interested in that data. What color is yours? Production date? This goes for anybody reading. I need data! Lots of other factors can effect adhesion. Water base paint is fairly new to the assembly line. Remember the last time they made a change and removed the lead? I repainted hundreds of peeling cars and trucks. This is a new car and a new paint technology so we are the test pilots. After I collect more data I will publish a new thread with findings and recommendations. Try to get yours tested and get back to me. |

I do not have any chips yet but expect to start seeing them soon unless I take preventive action. Its either mud flaps, clear bra,or this new product from TKO performance..Cleartastic. I do not care for the look of the"flaps" but the way the car is designed the front tires are going to send stones into the rocker and gill areas. No paint will stand up to that 100%
If you have your car inspected by GM get the mil thickness of your paint as I am collecting data to see if there is a signifiant variance between cars. Mine has 9+ and 3 others had 8.6 +- |

my rjt has some chips here and there. Just turned 2k miles. it never leaves the garage. just drive it for fun. front air dam under the fog lights are getting torn up. and ive got a random one on the hood and pass door. one right at 12 oclock on the rear wheel well on the lip. with the special paint on the rjt, you would think it was thicker.

several chips on mine also. The front bumper and rockers, and doors and gills are chipped with only 4000 miles. And I never tailgate for that reason. I am gonna ask my dealer about it when I take it in for the other problems the car has.

I have posted on my issue and over the last week I may be making some head way. I have contacted GM customer Care and it has now gone up the food chain to a higher level as I questioned the original denial of warranty as having no merit. In the internal investigation as they called it, they stated they had pictures of my car and I called them out on that, I sent emails to corporate stating how it sends a pretty false image of GM when they lie to a customer stating they had pictures when this was totally false. I am waiting to hear back as the case has now been re-opened and I am to recieve an update by friday of this week. So everyone please do keep complaining, this is definately bad paint and GM needs to have everyone file a case claim at the customer care dept. Don't let up, they will try to blow you off.. They know they have a problem and we the owners need to make our voice heard so we can have our cars repaired, repainted or whatever. |
