I would say the 5.0 badges would be a dead giveaway. Although if it is a California Edition then it will not have the 5.0 badges.

Given that I dont drag race and I dont race on the streets there is so little difference that in real world that this comes down to which car "feels" right and which we prefer the look of
I am sure that we will have lots of folks having fun debating differences in times / max speeds etc. Reality is simply that Ford is back in business again with a viable competitor to the Camaro.... just a pity that it has a face like a squished catfish as my daughter said (I know some folks will love it - and each to their own - and ultimately that is what I think much of this will come down to)

That's what they put in the GT500, with a blower strapped to it. What would happen if Ford put the same motor in their base GT and sold it for thousands less? People would buy that car and strap a blower to it and be running right with the higher end GT500. Same reason the TBird Super Coupe didn't stick around for very long, they were running with and sometimes beating the Mustangs and that made some people angry.

Ford has answered the call quite effectively. The new V8 and V6 are great motors. Ford's new V6 is quite the burner and sounds very nice. The companies approaches are just different. I'm sure Chevy will answer back in short order.
What's cool is both companies has given the V6 enthusiasts solid platforms to work from. With a few simple tweaks to the intake, exhaust etc, the V6 Camaro is right there with the V6 Stang. I prefer Chevy's approach at the moment as I think the Camaro is a much better looking car and has a better chassis from which to work from. I do not mind the low roof at all. I'm 5'10" so it's not an issue for me. I've never owned a car that has had so many people from so many different walks of life approach me asking permission to have their picture taken with it. I know Ford has done a commendable job of taming their LSA and keeping the weight down and the sequential tailights are sick but the front end to me is a great example of redesign for re design's sake. It just doesn't look that great nor do I car for the smoother fender flares. Fail. I showed up at a Corvette rally last Saturday to meet some friends and my V6 Camaro drew more attention any of the Vettes. It's a gorgeous car.

Well, he might not be wrong. The 2010 was known to handle better than the camaro and the 2011 handles better, stops faster and has way more power than the 2010. Of course, we won't know until it's tested, but it's definitely safe to say that the 5.0 theoretically should be faster around a road course. Who cares though? Probably 95% of the people on this forum wouldn't be able to run even remotely consistent times on your average road course. The road course is ALWAYS a drivers race if the cars are even somewhat close.

I am an SS owner, but based on everything I have read, the 5.0 will be abetter handler and faster on a road course.
Does not make me love the SS any less. It is all good.

I think the 5.0 will have the edge on a road course against a SS but not by much.

Or better yet you can read for yourself. From JusticePete who knows a little something about handling."One more time -- The 5th Gen is a well engineered automobile and in complete OE trim is a terrific performance car that does not NEED a chassis brace or any other aftermarket products to be a world class performance car. GM and Chevy have already proved that at the Ring. Period. End of story." I don't know what kinda times the 2011 Mustang will have, but let's stop the talk about the SS handling. It is clearly a well handling car. Can it be better, of course, but it's damn good right out of the box. Oh, and to say it will crush the SS is just ridiculous. |

2010 camaro SS ...8:20 porsche cayman S 8:25 audi S5............... 8:26 bmw 335ie92.........8:26 2009 bmw E92..............8:05 honda S2000........8:39 chevrolet cobalt....9:02.........since it was mentioned chevrolet cobalt SS/TC.8:22 2 seconds a lap after 30 laps is a minute behind. a minute is a lot. how much heat will the cobalt have then? im not trying to pick sides but in testing the mustang, in some configuration, was as quick or slightly quicker than an E92 M3. now it could have been a ringer car like the one that put down 395rwhp.
