Parts of the car are new, but a lot of the components, like the engine and drive train, are not new and should not be giving these kinds of problems.

However, would you rather have a car with no brakes and the throttle sticks wide open without warning?????

On July 3, 1980, I got my first car, a brand new 1980 Z28 from Empire Chevrolet in Brooklyn. By the time I got it home, it had thrown its alternator belt. Thereafter, I had a host of electircal problems. Oh, and one fine day, after having it serviced, the tech forgot to tighten the front passenger side lug nuts. How exciting when the wheel snapped off during a -thankfully slow-turn.

In 1982, I bought the then new Z28. It too had a host of electircal problems. And, on yet another fine day in the Battery Tunnel, the clutch linkage bar simply snapped in two. Thereafter, the t-tops leaked and squeaked, and the dashboard rattled.

I was quite happy when that car was stolen in 1985. But the I bought an S-10 Blazer. Which was a comnplete pile of crap.

In 1988, I finally bought a Ford Bronco, which I traded in on a 1989 mustang convertible and I have never looked back. I now have a 2011 Mustang GT on order.

I really like the new Camaro, and I was willing to wait for the convertible. But, after all is said and done, I knew I could never again trust GM, which had peddled so much crap on us. And now it appears that they are at it again. Between the quality control and the Bozo dealers, it is no wonder that they went bankrupt.
Sad, but they brought it on themselves.
First -- welcome to the site!

And I'm sorry to hear of your negative experiences...however...nothing GM is doing today can be compared to what they were doing back in the day. There is nothing wrong with this car in terms of quality. What you read here on this site is a compilation of oddball problems from very passionate owners.

The car is not perfect, no car is. And there will be problems in some of them...but that's the nature of a complex machine like an automobile. Get it repaired under warranty and move on. Real issues have been few and far between with this car in the grand scheme of things.

I guess what I'm trying to say is not to let your past experiences affect your choice to purchase a Camaro. There is no comparison.

At this point, especially with the scratches and unknown damage to the tranny, I would be looking into getting a new car under the lemon law (if applicable in your state). You're probably hesitant to get another Camaro, but there are thousands of owners who have had zero issues (including me).

But one thing is for sure... you need to get the word out about the dealer/service dept that has failed you so miserably.

Thank you for the welcome.

As to the quality of the car, I hope you are right. Because I really want to see GM succeed (America needs its manufacturing base). It's just a shame that GM "poisoned the well" with the 3 of their cars I owned (and don't even ask about my father's 1983 Cadillac-a complete piece of trash).

I fear for GM if this car fails; it seems that this car, and not the Corvette, is the current "halo" car getting people interested in GM products again. Negative reports can only hurt GM as a whole.

It's not failing, I can assure you.

It's been outselling the Challenger and Mustang combined for almost the past year. It's won numerous awards over and over again...and people generally just love the car. :-D

EVERY car has issues. This site simply lets us talk to each other and figure out which is the most common on our car. It's a poor reflection on the car's overall "quality" though, which in reality -- is very high. (It's been rated the best resale value in the class)

In the broad spectrum, nearly every vehicle GM's released in the past few years has been met with great praise and have all but sold out. Equinoxes are still hard to come by, as far as I know.

I think the lemon law applies, 99% of the people on this site probably haven't had to go thru what has happned to you... I think if I were you another new Camaro is what i'd settle for...

Sounds like the dealership is the biggest part of the problem. I had a transmission fluid leak, they replaced a gasket on the front of the transmission and the clutch plate (because fluid got on it and it was slipping a little). They removed the transmission, did the repair and reassembled it. That was about 4 weeks ago and the transmission/clutch has been perfect. The dealership I go to has a great reputation and it was proven to me.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I hope you can get everything worked out and still be happy with your Camaro. I, fortunately, haven't had any problems to date, but it's a machine and I'm sure somewhere , something will go wrong.

Good luck. Lori

Tim, you're not alone, although your case is the worst I've heard of. Please visit this thread and sign the petition for GM to do something about our clutch issues:

I hope you don't mind me saying that you're being totally unfair in comparing experiences you had in the early 80's to today. There were Fords with immense rust issues back in that timeframe and nobody here is saying all fords rust out in 2 winters.

People have to look at the cars from GM as they are now. It's like judging a sports team based on the year they were in a slump. Who would do that?

I hope that they will make it right. To nice of a car to be having so many problems. I do know though that the dealer can make the difference. They screwed it up and they must be made to make it right.

I'm so glad I got the automatic. Just lazy I guess.
