Hahaha...my new Equinox has an automatic, does that count?

Sorry folks (with automatics), I'm happy for ya enjoying your cars. I bought a '99 Z-28 with an automatic, drove it for about a week and decided to let my son have it. Heard all the stuff about autos being quicker, autos shift better than you can...but where's the "fun factor"?

I don't know about the L99, but on the LT with an A6 when you are on the highway you can do a 4th gear lock. You have to stab the gas and release and the car will hold in 4th for quick passing. To disengage it you just push the gas slowly, it works good on the LT and is pretty cool on the highway ...

Glad you're having fun, but your car ISN'T. If you want a bit of noise, throw it in neutral and floor it, it'll speak up just fine. Go or don't go. Confusing the crap out of your drivetrain by slamming it around like that isn't healthy for it.

Also- if you have the L99, you don't have 426 horses. You have 400 flat. Not to be an @ss, but I just noticed your name is Mr Clutch... Have you ever driven a manual transmission?

I also don't think it's accepted around here to be posting "light to light" stories in here as well. Be careful with that one.

Then, when you let off of the gas, after the downshift, the "growl" you hear is just the engine running at higher RPMs in a lower gear... then it probably upshifts pretty quickly after realizing you're not passing. Either way... I wouldn't do that to any car I own, and I don't even own a Camaro yet. If you really want it to growl, just slip it into N, rev, then back into D. That's got to be safer for your drive-train than what you're doing. Or, couldn't you even drive it in M mode and use the tap shifters to accomplish the same thing?

That's my $0.02 - take it for what it's worth.

Wow thanks! That's exactly what I was trying to explain. Flooring it and letting off the gas makes the engine rev high then downshift. Thanks for not bashing and being a total ass about it like everyone else in this thread. Some of you guys can be total a*holes with your responses. I didn't know what exactly was happening with the engine so you bash me and point out "fail" just to be funny? Seriously grow up. Its just a message board, if you can't contribute to the topic why bother... Some of you guys seriously discourage people from wanting to post because of the overwhelming amount of bad attitudes you all have towards people who aren't in " the clique ".

Thanks for the info. I know the auto doesn't have 426hp, it has 400 and 410 torque. I just told the random guy at the light that. People tend to look down upon you when u say oh I don't drive stick. But yea I driven a manual before, it was new to me, didn't like it. And I didn't choose my username as Mr clutch for any reason pertaining to a vehicle, I chose it for other reasons beyond its initial meaning. Clutch also means control....people at work tell me I'm so clutch. Long story.

Maybe the OP is confusing "power braking" with "engine braking"? As in on a manual transmission?

So, my politely worded opinion, which if you read the thread, the OP even thanked me for not being an @ss about, is somehow worth less because I drive a "Grandpa" car? I never told him how to drive, I only told him what it sounded to me like he was doing, since there was some confusion, and gave my opinion about whether or not I'd do this in ANY of my cars, Camaro or not. There are so many things wrong with this statement that I'm not even going to point them out because I have to go change the oil in my Grandpa car See ya!

Actually, no, I'm not talking about anything illegal. I'll re-explain what happened which made my day so fun. It was raining....I went to an empty parking lot and did donuts. No-one was harmed! Then while at a red light with a g37 I revved my engine high then took off past him. You guys are sitting here acting like I molested the Pope's sister!

Jeez quit acting like female dogs. You don't have something to contribute move on..ignore my post. And also I was thanking "the Guy with the Ford" he was the only one who responded to my post without being a total ass over a message board. Anyway
I was just saying how fun the car was.

Gotcha. Either way, glad you're enjoying the car. Just know that if you're nice to her, she'll be enjoyable for alot longer!

PS if anyone gives you any crap about revving her in Neutral (because it's not under load) tell em to shove it. The alternative is much worse for it, and those of us with automatics have to make some noise somehow
