Does the computer relearn?

Just as the subject says I put in my injen about 2-3 months ago and instantly I felt the response get way better... Then About a month ago I put in my magnaflow catback in and well I didn't really notice anything. I have been running it the same and I feel the lag once again. I am running 91 octain and the only thing I can think of is just it's getting a bit warmer but on days that it is cool here in California I still feel a bit of the lag. Any opinions on if the tq/hp is set maybe our computers make it where you can't go higher and goes back to that?

Without any numbers to back it up I'd say that what's happening here is the placebo effect is wearing off. When you put on your Injen, you wanted it to feel faster so it did. Now, the newness is wearing off and so is that effect.

Or.... the Injen really did make a noticeable difference but now you're just used to it so you don't notice it anymore.

I'm not an expert on the Bosch but I doubt that it just completely negates mods after a certain time. I think this is more of a mind over matter thing, which is natural and happens to everyone.

Yep, The computer will re-learn your car when changes are made. Usually takes a few days before all is learned, but to answer you question, yes it does. Hope this helps.

So does that mean the mods we're doing eventually become useless?

Nope, not at all. If you install a CAI and there is more cold air in flow, the computer will recognise it and adjust to maximize the performance.

Gotcha, thats awesome that a car can re-learn to maximize performance! Thanks for clearing that up for me

Have you been getting any codes with the Injen? If so, has the frequency of your CEL gone down over time?

Its a bit more complicated than more air + car relearning = more performance. First, you want to get to the cool air, so find a CAI that seals itself off from the engine compartment or one that relocates the filter like the Injen. Then hopefully the CAI you choose has well designed tube that will take advantage of the extra air it brings in while keeping a balanced AFR (air fuel ratio).

More Air + cooler air + balanced AFR = more performance. Hot air or out of spec AFR can equal a performance loss!

If I remember the old rule of HP it is for every 10 degree temp change of incoming air equals approx. 1 % of total HP so if we have 312 HP stock and you are now drawing in air that is 30 degrees warmer than before you could be down as much as 10 HP. Remember this is all approximate.
