What happens if you cancel your order

Not that I plan on doing so, but if you placed an order and put a deposit down and signed a paper saying you agree to buy it at msrp etc etc, what if you decided a couple months down the road before the car comes that you don't want to buy it and back out?

im guessing you would lose atleast something. do you have a copy of your contract?
it should have a section in it about what happens upon cancellation.

my dealer said because they need to be compensated in some way for having a car they ordered i would get a full refund if and when the gets sold provided it's sold within 30 days. but i would think this would be the dealers call on how they want to handle deposits

all this talk about vettes has now got me thinking ,Hmm.. which one..I mean thats a corvette for cryin out loud, for about the same as loaded camaro, okay for the question. if I cancel my order now (before gm picks it up)will I get my $1000.00 dep. back,I would assume so , just wanted to make sure.

Depends totally and utterly on the dealer and your agreement with them.

That was the first question I asked before I made a deposit. The dealer I went to told me that its 100% refundable if I dont like the car or decide to back out. I aslo used my check card instead of wrighting a check so I can challenge the deposit if they refuse to give it back to me.

^^ make sure the refundability is in writing. all the dealers i've talked to say it's non-refundable because you're entering into a buying commitment. after all, they're purchasing a car from GM. if they buy one for you & you decide not to buy it from them, then they have to risk eating the cost if it don't sell (not that it won't). a non-refundable deposit is more of an assurance thing for them because it 'means' you're more serious about really buying the car.

As on every business transaction the key phrase i always tell everyone "GET IT IN WRITING! Signed and dated by the manager not the salesman.

Is it in writing and did you agree to it before you paid? The reason why I ask is unless it is in writing and both parties signed, it is ILLEGAL for a dealer to keep your money if you back out of the purchase in any shape or form. The current consumer laws state that the money is 100% yours until you purchase the car.

That's the LAW in Florida. State Attorney General will enforce it, if necessary. Just explaining that to a scummy dealer got my money back, ask for the General Manager.
