It does have great control of shifts. You pick what gear you're in and it won't shift until you shift besides downshifting coming to a stop. Keep in mind that, yes, you can downshift. lol Also, I enjoy driving this car with TAPshift. It shifts in sub .2 sec. with the tranny tunes. Enjoyment? Beating M6 cars gives me that enjoyment you're talking about. lol Next time, if you don't have anything useful to provide to a thread then just don't say anything.

Had a couple of ideas myself, waiting on a wiring diagram of the tap shift paddles/harness. If anyone has one they can post I will be happy to share what I come up with.

I just want some modified paddles to eliminate the stupid click sound.

so as I sat in the 'mro after washing it thinking about this post I got to looking around, and it seems to me that a pair of paddles mounted where the + & - tabs are behind the steering wheel in a spring loaded, double lever configuration with the end of the final lever depressing the existing button would be cool as hell. cnc'd aluminum a must. hope this makes sense.

Tap shift novice, but I always have an opinion...
Ok, I do agree something other than buttons would be cooler. But I also think they need to be more easily accessible. For instance, I would much prefer it to be more like a manual shifter, than on the steering wheel. I don't like that my buttons/paddles rotate when turning... I'd rather they be in one place easily accessible.
Either way, it'll never replace a manual when it comes to connecting you to your gears. I find "S" mode does a good job of driving aggressively, and I will tap down a gear or two if I need/want to pass.

Why not move the switches on your A6? If all they are is a couple of electrical switches with wires going to the harness, it should not be that big of a deal to move them from behind the wheel to a bracket somewhere. A previous poster complained about them being very hard to find when cornering, this is only true if you are in a hairpin and really need to move your hands from the 9 - 3 o'clock position. If you are into road racing, get a manual. I am not, I prefer drag racing and that is why I have the A6. I use "M" for my 1/4 miles, not the Tapshift, I tried it and didn't like it.

Not trying to
. I have an A6 and I never used the Paddle Shifters yet, I am to scared that I will "eff" up the shifting because I am not used to it. If I could change one thing about the shifting, I would actually want the buttons removed entirely and put the up/down shifting ability right where I believe it belongs, on the actual shifter. Like, put the car into "M" mode as we do now for "Sport" mode, yet still allowing the car to do all the shifting itself. But if we want shifting control, slide the shift to the right turning into "Manual" mode, where we would then get to push the sifter up and down to control shifting. It would give it a more "manual" feel, IMHO... I've seen it on other cars....wonder why it wasn't done that way...?

Also... I believe they used tapshift because they want to add more of a luxury quality to it. Most BMWs have tapshift now... and also, some Supercars are only available in TAPSHIFT! =o To me, it's a good thing they made a tapshift mode for the automatics. Just a bit more bang for your buck.

Easier said than done... I was hoping it would be that simple too... but since the buttons are on the steering wheel... means there may be some complications with the Airbag.. Not sure if it's that easy to take apart. And since I'm a car noobie, I would not risk taking it apart until there is some kind of DIY guide, or a clear diagram of the Steering wheel construction. I personally don't even mind the position of the buttons, I just want a Paddle, instead of a clicky button =D
