I have been looking through this thread I have the same problems on my quaters right in front of the rear wheels and in front of them. I do beleive the people with the 2ss are more at risk cause of the soft tires alot of people with different tires are not having this problem. those tires pick up everything and throw it right back.

Well, I just purchased my Camaro on 05/22/2010 and noticed today that the paint is peeling on my trunk around both edges of the spoiler. The paint is peeling like a pencil being sharpened. take a look below:

I've put about 120 miles on it. 106 of that was the drive back from the dealer I purchased it from. I'm sure that damage did not come from road conditions.

I've had the same issues with my car which is Red Jewel Tintcoat, RJT the only color we had to pay a premium, I luv the color, that's why I ordered it. I have chips on the hood, the roof, front facia, the gills and rear quarter flares. I really didn't want to, but I had the mud or "flack" flaps installed, the dealer did it for no charge. I think they detract from the clean lines of the car, but if they'll help save my paint job, its worth it for the extra protection that they will provide. That doesn't fix the chips, but I hope it cuts down on further damage. I've seen the clear bras after a couple of years, and they look like crap because they absorb the impact and transfer it to the paint below the bra, eventually leaving air pockets. I think someone needs to invent "force fields" to surround and protect our vehicles from incidental contact by flying debris. Oh and yes I've had to have a chip fixed in my windshield. Fbodfather, are there more complaints with any specific color?

Well that settles it. When I can afford to get a clear bra, I will take it t the dealer have them fix them. Wait the required time for the paint to cure, then slap a clear bra on it and the gills etc.
Thanks for the info Scott!
I'd rather have a clear bra on known problem areas then give up this amazing design!

Has anyone talked with their dealership about them repainting the car under warranty? I have had my car for about 7 months and I have several paint chips myself on the top of the front bumper, gills and the worst is my rear end. It has paint chips near the rear bow tie emblem and my rear quarters look like they have been sand blasted. I have attempted to use wax to help with the quarters and it has helped out somewhat but as the wax wears away the scratches just come back. I applaud this guy for speakin up on the crappy paint they used for such a great car.

I was going to today but did not get the chance. I will soon. First thing I need to find out is if the dealer near me is getting shut down for sure or not.

I was just driving a long-term durability vehicle last week (an SS) and I went over it with a fine-tooth comb to look at anything that did not look the way it should. Further, I picked up a 2011 CTF Camaro and will put on a lot of miles - washing it myself thru-out the summer. I promise you that I will be vigilant when it comes to chips. For what it's worth - "Thor" - (shown below) has three chips on his front fascia and several small abrasions on his 'gills' -- that's in 16,000+ miles including late winter driving and much high-speed interstate driving thru Detroit.

We do care about chipping and every other issue surrounding the Camaro - in fact, many of us own personal Camaros.

It is not a case of where we do not see the chipping. Part of our job is to look for issues such as this.

I am not saying that paint will not chip. It certainly will when hit with something travelling at high velocity -esp if it is hard and has sharp edges. Windshields are very hard - but I've chipped the one on a Tahoe in three separate places within a one-month period. (the streets and roads of Detroit are vicious!)

I was mentioning to BumblebeeCamaro (while in Atlanta) that every spring, we would have to repaint the front 'headers' on most of our "demonstrators" at our family's dealership..................................

..............and this was in the 60s and 70s. So did every Ford Dealer - and Toyota dealer - - the paints back then did not resist chipping either! (they WERE better at resisting bird droppings!)

Now - some people on this very thread say "well my such-and-such' didn't have chips!" - or - "my such-and-such HAD paint chips and my Camaro doesn't!"

well - -the problem is that each car or truck didn't get driven down the same road at the same time - so the comparison isn't objective.

If you feel that your chipping is an issue, I encourage you to visit your dealer - that's why we provide you with a comprehensive warranty.
The last line is of interest to me. Are you saying if we experience "paint chips" the dealer will repaint under warranty ??? I haven't seen "chips" but I've seen the paint appear to be rolled up on itself or peeled down to the black primer.
I would love to be able to have my front fascia painted under warranty but I'm skeptical any dealer would agree to it. There is no doubt this water born base coat clear coat has a softer surface than more conventional urethane base coat clear coat systems, such as a body shop would use.

The only way to find out it to take it there and ask. At most you loose...10 minutes of your day?

What Fbodfather was trying to point out is that if the chipping is bad...the dealer has the ability to perform a warranty repair if they deem it to be flawed and not just normal wear.

Good thread, guys, and thanks for keeping it civil and constructive.

I have 9K on my 2SS now, and have the dreaded chips on gills on both sides of the car. I am extremely meticulous in the care and driving of this car, and I installed the mud flaps after owning the car for two weeks.

I am dismayed by the damage in the form of paint chips on my car. I take every precaution, yet every time I wash the car (once a week, by hand) I see new damage. It is really my only complaint on an otherwise fine car, one I enjoy driving. I guess I will just buy touch up paint and fix em as I get em, but I do believe for 36K I deserve better paint.
