Very close....this also is in play if you get a tank of low grade gas. PCM will pull timing out until the gas tank is refilled. |

It could be the gas is colder in the underground tank so when you put it in your car it is still colder than the ouside temp, and you will have more traction from the added weight. Just a crazy guess.

OMG I'm glad its not just me, have been trying to figure this out for years! According to physics and the horsepower gods this should not be the case but I have noticed it even going back to my (ashamed to say) 67 mustang. Maybe its just the feeling of getting the extra weight in motion.... dunno.....would be a great mythbusters episode LOL!

I would be willing to wager that having a full tank of fuel would allow you to sub-consciously become heavier footed since there is plenty of fuel there to burn, you aren't worried about conserving it nearly as much.
I know I am that way with my VTX 1800R, when I start getting closer to the bottom of the tank I ride her a little more gingerly to make sure I am not walking to the gas pumps. (it is F.I. so there is no reserve tank) As far as the sugar goes, that is Urban Legend. Right before I went to school for auto mechanics (back in the mid 80's) I had a Mustang with a V-6 in it, and decided to transplant a 302 into it. I did everything I could to ruin that motor, which included dumping sugar in the tank, and even pouring large amounts of it down the carb. I bogged it down but didn't kill it. Heck I even drained the oil and tried to throw a rod, but it kept on going, never did finish it off. When I was in school (Vale Technical Institute, Blairsville Pa.) there was a study done on the sugar in the tank myth, and the most it did was clog the filter, the engine was stripped down and there was absolutely no damage. |

My car always "runs" better after a full tank of gas, oil change, or detail.

Hmm..I've actually noticed this as well. The car isn't necessarily faster. The throttle is more responsive. Placebo or not..I'm in agreement.
