My AC has quit working

Has anyone else had their AC to slowly get warmer and warmer until it stops working all together? I can hear the compressor kicking in and out but the air is still warm... It was only 79 outside and the AC just wouldn't put out any cool air..

If you haven't done it already. There is a TSB for this. They have to reprogram the HVAC as it tends to freeze up the longer it is used. This was for a certain range of cars by VIN, so call your dealer and they should be able to tell ya.

Once it freezes it goes warm until it thaws then freezes again etc etc

It was warm from the time i started the car this morning, I noticed it getting weaker over the last couple days and this morning, nothing at all...

Ok I just went out and did a few experimental checks. I set the AC to recycle and the temperature control on Max and fan on the highest setting, I put a thermometer into the vent. The temperature started out around 110 degrees F and went down to 75, which is the current outside temp...I then opened the hood and could hear the compressor cutting on and off, i felt each side side of the compressor, and one side was very cold, the other very hot. i then shut off the AC and put the temperature setting on the coldest setting (Blue Dot), and turned off the recirculation. the thermometer reading went up to 120 degrees F. the outside temp was still 75..
Conclusion... The temperature control flaps are not closing off the hot air from the heater core.

Update, Got back from the dealer , and as I suspected, the temperature door was broken, they had to order a new one, and they don't know when it will be in, so until it comes in i am driving a Malibu...

OMG! WTH? This has got to be the most bizarre failure I have read for sure. I can't even remember the last time I saw a failure like this in my automotive days. It was usually the vacuum controller that controlled the doors. Wonder what caused the failure. Maybe just a mfg defect?

The service guy said he had never seen this either.. hopefully it is a one time thing... Last time I had a Heater door failure was on an old malibu, and the plastic had just gotten brittle with age and heat....

Exactly, on a vehicle that had some age and miles on it. Not something this new... Oh well, at least it got it out of the way while under warranty...

Was it the door itself or the actuator??? I have replace TONS of actuators on GM vehicles. I haven't done one on a camaro yet but I'm sure there all the same. We (the techs) look at it as job security .

I have never even had an actuator go bad before on Any GM Car I have owned, he said it was the door it's self and there was no way to rig it up so it would be closed all the time so I could still use the car without hot air blowing out...

Well the part finally came in this morning and they put it in, they installed a new door and actuator, it works fine and they did a really good job, no dash rattles or anything.. no scratches in the dash either. They will get a good rating from me on service...

I didn't realize how much I really loved this car until i didn't have it for 4 days...

Wonder if that's what happened to mine today. No cold air even though compressor kicks in. It's just odd that at the same time I noticed this was also the first time I noticed the tach wasn't working and then later today, the speedo and fuel gauge would quit working intermitently. Now all the instruments work fine for some reason but still no cold air. Dealer is going to check it tomorrow.

Do what I did to check it out, after sitting overnight, when you first start it up see turn the air on AC, recirc and max, if cold air comes out, switch the DIC to show engine temp, as the engine temp comes up see if the air coming out gets warmer...If it does your temperature door is broken..
