Pricing springs across brands is not comparing apples to apples. Springs from brand-a are not the same as springs from brand-b. The biggest differences you will find can be summed up in three bullet points.
1. What is the loaded height variation a company finds acceptable. At Pedders, each coil must be +/- 1mm or it is sent out to be recycled by the scrap metal yard and not re-worked. A Pedders coil set is the equivalent of a 'race matched coil set' from many brands, but is just business as usual at Pedders. Across the industry a 15mm variation is pretty standard. 2. How many coils are tested at loaded height to confirm they meet the company specification? At Pedders EVERY coil put into a Pedders box is tested. EVERYONE SINGLE ONE . 3. Are the coils fully scragged? Scragging is a full compression of the coil to set the height. EVERY Pedders coil is fully scragged before we box it in our spring plant on property at our Head Office in AU. Pedders Spring Plant Video: Become an informed buyer and know what you are buying before you spend your hard earned mod money. Make the choice that best fit your needs, but do not assume that all coils are a commodity that can be purchased by price point. Last edited by JusticePete; 06-24-2010 at 03:21 PM. |

Out of curiosity, why all the secrecy? Can't the questions be answered publicly? If not, why?

The rules of the forum ask vendors to keep pricing out of the technical section of the forum. I understand they do not want to see the general forum turned into an online auction or flea market. Having said that, there are times like this that make it seem were are doing secret deals to the exclusion of the forum members. I am working on a solution that will be within the rules as well as spirit of the forum for Pedders products.

Okay, that makes sense about the first question from which all the PM requests derived, but the rest could be answered here, right?
Quote:
PfadtRacing, it does matter to me how much fuel I have because it is noticeable, and it does matter to me what I have. Adding or reducing fuel makes changes within that range, but differing spring rates and heights add another variable that may make the one end or the other of fuel range (and/or passenger and/or general load weight) tip it over into 'undesirable' for me. Case in point; My old Camaro IROC-Z was lowered, but the front sat too high for my liking compared to the rear, and it rode a bit too rough. I then added 50lbs to the front from installing my twin-turbo setup, and the front lowered just enough to look perfect and ride a tad bit smoother. Those were the results I desired for that car. 19 gallons of fuel weighs a lot more than that, as does a 175lb passenger. To re-iterate what I stated previously, sometimes you can't control every variable, but you can put the baseline into a full range that's acceptable with the variables taken into consideration. So far I haven't read or seen anything to convince me that there are any hard specs or measurements on some of this stuff, and with which model and weight of the car those measurements were taken. ![]() I'm a lot more OCD than most. I can't accept something that isn't right to me, and the only way I can find that out without shelling out my precious time and money is to hear it from the sources and see it from the customers (along with explanation) |
