Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags
For all you 4th gen Camaro fans, this year's winner of Hot Rod's annual Pump Gas drags is a 2000 Camaro. The 410 ci small block beat a 602 ci Hemi in a 68 Dodge Charger in the finals with a 9.22 @ 148.56 to the Charger's 9.30 @ 148.72.
Four of the ten finalists were Camaros. Eight were Chevys. Nine of the ten were GM. Nice! No link yet to Hot Rod's sight (just got my magazine in the mail today so it will probably be updated soon). However, you can find the final pass below. :tweetz: http://www.powerperformancetv.com/video/373 |

Powerglide?!?!? I thought Standards were quicker in drags?
Either way, Awesome Video! Imagine how much quicker that Camaro would have gone if somebody..."smaller" drove it |

:tweetz: Actually Glides are the way to go with drag racing, less time lost shifting. In theory, your fastest pass would be run at a constant RPM (peak power) down the entire track with some converter slip at launch to minimize tire spin. With a 4 speed, you have three times to miss a shift and/or shift at the wrong RPM plus one chance to screw up your launch.
That said, I'll still pick a stick any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Yeah dude could stand to lose a few pounds eh? |

My friend Lee ran an 8.19 but was disqualified for missing a checkpoint. Big disappointment for us. Second year in a row one of our Vipers had the best time and was disquailified. Last year the horn broke and we failed tech.

Richie, I saw that too. Looked like he would have smoked the field. At least he got to run some exhibitions to prove he was for real. Was he still running on 93?

I am not sure if he was or not. I will ask him and let you know. Now I am curious.
Lee happens to be a great guy in person. Real laid back. His car was built a few years ago by Heffners. Very consistent driver and car. |

Either way, 8.19 with a street car is bad a$$, 93 or race fuel. That's a sweet ride!

The fastest true street car I ever was in is this Viper. It ran an 8.75 @ 163mph and then Jerry drove from Florida back to Ft Worth. I have videos on almost all our runs. Incredible car.
