Fuse pull or battery disconnect?

Hey folks

just read another thread on here that gave me an idea how to fix a problem but I'm not sure which method would be best. I guess I could do both, but I'm more interested in knowing what the difference is if any.

Since I did my headlight conversion, I now have an LED bar as my signal light on the front of the car. Now after I start up i get 2 messages every time "Check Right Signal" and "Check Left Signal" I just clear them and carry on and I don't see them again until I start up my car next time. Another member mentioned that after changing to Bi-Xenon HID's he got an error message, but disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and it went away.

I think I'm going to try the same thing tonight when I get home, but it got me thinking.

What's the difference between the fuse pull and disconnecting the battery? one resets the ECM and the other resets something else? I know people do the fuse pull to reset engine parameters. But I'm not sure exactly what fuse it is and why it works.

I'm one of those people that if I don't know WHY/HOW it works... I'll actually lose sleep over it haha

Pulling the fuse empties the volatile memory in the computer. Your problem probably resides in the BCM (body control module) and not the ECM. Therefore you would be better offf probably disconnecting the cable on the negative post of the battery and thereby reseting the memory in all the modules.

If anything I'd say they'd have trouble figureing out just exactly what it IS from a distance I think. at night anyway

I'm not trying to convince you to do it by any mean though haha I'll be perfectly happy if i'm the only person that ever does this.
