Question about Headers:

I wanted to know what the difference was when you buy headers and cats if you have a 3" X pipe or a 2.5" X pipe. What is different as far as bolting everything up?

One will need a 3" cat-back and the other a 2.5" cat-back.

Thing is I think most of the 3" cat-backs still have a 2.5" inlet. From my understanding you have to buy a matched up system like TSP, KOOKS, or LG. ARH has a 3" that goes all the way back to the axle but there aren't many 3" axle-back systems.

What would be different with the cats? I would guess that the cats would have either a 2.5 or 3" oppening?

Not positive but i would think the Cats would probably be 3". Then afert the Cats it would either stay 3" or drop down to 2.5".

Take a look at this pic. It looks like 3" in and then tapers down to 2.5".

Thanks for the input. Someone is selling there headers and cats for 2.5" exhaust but I have a 3" and was wondering if they could be altered to fit for a low cost.

Are you saying you already have a 3" cat-back?

If you do and it's connected to the factory headers and cats then the inlet will be a 2.5" on your cat-back.

That's what I was originally saying. Even though you have a 3" cat-back they have to have an 2.5" inlet because the factory headers/cat are 2.5" outlet.

From my understanding the way to get a full 3" system is to buy a complete setup from headers to exhaust tip or have one custom made.

Sounds like the headers would hook up to your cat-back so you may not have to alter anything.

Just be careful of buying from a individual. There was a big header scam that just took place a couple weeks ago. At least one person lost $1,000 and a couple others lost some money trying to buy some wheels from the same guy. PM me if you want to see those links.
