Actually if you read the article they didn't outperform the SS at all. Anything that was noted as "clearly winning" was due to the driver and no direct reflection of the car itself. The numbers they put out were a lot worse than other similar car comparison numbers.

We just recently watched the video where a Camaro SS easily beat a GT500 Cobra in a 1/4 mile race (forum wars). What did that prove? We know the Camaro SS isn't faster than a GT 500 Cobra. What really needs to happen is the top Camaro SS driver from this forum race the top Mustang 5.0 driver from another forum (stock vs stock). That way we know that both drivers are going to the most out of each car. Then they need to do a best of 3 out of 5 races to really make sure. |

LOL. Holy cow! Message received....but.....wow. LOL
Back to the main topic...in the 1/4 mile, the M6 cars are very close, and easily within driver ability to determine who wins or loses. SGOS....even with your idea (which is about as good as it gets), there is still the potential for one side to have a "1%" car, or the other to have one on the other end of the spectrum. IMHO, about all you can do when the cars are this close, is to take all the data available and draw your own conclusions. I guess if you wanted to get real anal with it, one could develop a scattergram and do a finite analysis, but in the end, I think the conclusion would be that the cars are within a tenth or two, and it comes down to driver. |

If you look at the numbers on the last page of the test the SS is a full second faster than the GT to 120mph. By this speed driver ability is just about mitigated. This test showed the SS was a faster car, but the SS is a little softer handling and heavier car.
For me I would much rather a car as a DD be faster and more comfortable. If I wanted a track car I would invest in spings and sways. |

True..but how many of us, using out DD's, are going to be going to 120 on a regular basis, or faster? Just kind of a funny thought, IMO |

Take note that in the Motortrend pony car test the Mustang 5.0 got worse mileage than either the SRT8 or SS Camaro. Why do you think that might be? My guess is that the 5.0 Ford has to be revved higher to make it's power, and internal friction increases as the square of rpm. Here's a final point to contemplate. The 2011 Mustang would weigh no more with an LS3 under the hood but would have a fatter torque curve. The result would be that a 2011 LS3 powered Mustang would beat both a 2011 5.0 Mustang and an SS Camaro in the 1/4 mile. In 15 years when the hotrodders buy Mustangs with used up 5.0s and yank them for cheaper LS3s to go bracket racing we'll find out. |

My point was simply that a true measure of how fast a car is without driver skill coming into play is a longer run, or from a roll. What a 0-120 does (or from a roll) is let the cars power determine the winner, not a good launch. ![]()

wimpy mustang driver
First of all I know there are alot of mustang owners here and I don't mean any offense to any of you this is only pointed at one particular guy who happens to drive a mustang I just wanted to say this before so no one thinks that I mean any offense to any mustang drivers.
So for the past week every day I drive home from summer school Ive been seeing a brand new mustang either a 2010 or 2011 and today I left school and saw the mustang as usual and we both stopped at the light next to each other. I look over and the guy in the mustang signals me to roll down my window I do so and he tells me he wants to race me down to the end of the street and of course Im not a street racer or any kind of racer at that so I say no and begin rolling my window up. As I roll my window up I hear him shout "whats the matter afraid I'll smoke your POS camaro?" so than I decide the streets not that long one quick race won't hurt so I say ok fine you got yourself a race. and he gets all excited and revs his engine and I rev mines as well. Than he looks over and I rev the engine again and all of a sudden hes like "you know what I don't want to embarrass you by smokin your car" and than makes a right turn and drive off and than the light turns green and I make a left and continue driving off but couldn't help laughing at how that guy chickened out after hearing my engine roar |
