That's despite the Fords application of DOHC, and independent VVT for intake and exhaust.

Take note that in the Motortrend pony car test the Mustang 5.0 got worse mileage than either the SRT8 or SS Camaro. Why do you think that might be? My guess is that the 5.0 Ford has to be revved higher to make it's power, and internal friction increases as the square of rpm.

Here's a final point to contemplate. The 2011 Mustang would weigh no more with an LS3 under the hood but would have a fatter torque curve. The result would be that a 2011 LS3 powered Mustang would beat both a 2011 5.0 Mustang and an SS Camaro in the 1/4 mile.

In 15 years when the hotrodders buy Mustangs with used up 5.0s and yank them for cheaper LS3s to go bracket racing we'll find out.
You make some fair points. Now imagine if GM just built a lighter 5th Gen Camaro from the start. One thing though if the world is going to end in 2012 how are we ever going to find out the results of this bracket racing deal?

Arrow (Stock Camaro ss m6 vs Stock 04 Cobra mustang m6)

I have a 2011 stock camaro ss and I have a few buddies that have 03 and 04 cobra's. And i was just simply wondering stock vs stock who would win off the line and from rolling start. Now let me just say that i love all muscle cars and i respect that 4.6 DOHC supercharged engine very much im just curious!!!! Now remember this is stock on stock no mods on either. And lets say both drivers are equal lets keep this simple. Thanks guys i know i will get good feedback!!!

L99 (400 hp) curb weight = 3910 lbs. Power to weight ratio = 9.77 lb/hp
03/04 Cobra (390 HP) curb weight = 3665 lbs. Power to weight ratio = 9.39 lb/hp
LS3 (426 HP) curb weight = 3888 lbs. Power to weight ratio = 9.12 lb/hp

LS3 has a slight advantange stock to stock

The 03-04 cobras were underrated a decent amount. They generally make around 370rwhp or so, just about what an SS makes. From a dig or a roll he is going to have a slight advantage, but it is small enough that the driver could make the difference.

Cobras are faster. Even other Chevy people agree.

Both are great cars.

Apparently you didn't read ALL of the posts, because they don't agree.

Many said it would be a draw ... a driver's race.

Car and Driver tested several 03-04 Cobra's, all of which turned a 12.9@111mph. Guess what Car and Driver got with the new Camaro SS?

13.0@111mph

Yup. A driver's race ...

I guess you didn't see the poll at the top of the tread.
30-9 for the Cobra.
It can be a drivers race but on equal conditions and drivers, the Cobra is faster.

Sorry OP but I don't have stock to stock data, but it would be a close race. A friend of mine has a ported and pullied Terminator, and I get him by a car in the quarter mile each time. We are dead even going into third, but after that, I just pull away. He believes he puts down around 450whp. I should be around 445whp.
