I've lost two tires to nails and windshield from a rock. Strangly no paint issues. Save for a small spot of something embedded in the paint. I call it her character mark.

Had my BLACK 2011 for 1 week today, and driven 240 miles. Had 3 good sized chips on my front fascia after only about 200 of those miles. Not happy w/the durability.

I have a few chips on my gills. I have a clear bra and took a couple of hits to it that would have shredded the paint, because they made pretty big gouges in the clear bra. I've got one chip on the passenger side above the door window, in the panel between the window and the roof molding, that I don;t know how in the he## it got there. It's about as big as this letter "o" and looks like somebody had to shoot a BB directly from the side. My biggest problem is keeping it clean and streak free (black). I can't see the smudges unless it's in full sunlight, but it's too hot to detail them out while in direct sun, and when I pull it in the shade I can't see it well enough to tell if I got the smudges out. Guess I need to spend $2K on fancy lights inside the garage just to see detailing results.

I could sneeze on this thing and it might etch. The chips are a whole other monster - my front facia looks like it has been sand blasted, and even after I installed the splash guards, the gills continue to rack up chips faster than a poker pro. I even have 2 sizeable chips on the trunk decklid.

Strict care including detailing and waxing (Adams products) is an exercise in futility. I never have driven through a gravel parking lot, and I don't drive through tornadoes. I avoid construction zones like the plague. Black certainly doesn't help, but none of my previous black cars have provided me the same problems. The bottom line is that it is completely unacceptable for a $35K car, and this issue alone will be cause me to much more carefully consider buying any new car.

So here's to throwing in the towel, and taking a hit to the wallet.
so what do you want?..performance,AND quality too?..from the "general?"
tough call!..i hope so!..got my fingers crossed!..wish me luck!..think i'm gonna need it!

I'm running it the way it is. I'm not going to fuss over it any more. Hell, I haven't even washed it for over a month. It's not worth it. I'm going to run this one into the ground and get a Z/28 when they come out. Hopefully they get a hold on making water based paints more durable by then.
hoping ,and hoping it's JUST the paint!..only way to know for sure is keep it for the warranty's duration!..

Only because we just released a product to help protect your paint from rock chips, I'm posting the link.

The "gill & lower rocker" kit is great even if you have splach guards.
Rocks still get around them..

One thing to be sure is since the economy tanked, communities do not keep the streets as clean as they used to be. I used to see the street sweeper come through here at least once a week, and so far i have only seen it come through once this year.. more debris on the street means more chips in the paint.

I have both factory paint and custom paint (IOM) done by a friend who owns his own shop and does it for a living. Both areas of the car have chips. It seems the car body lines promote rock chips, but that's just a guess. I haven't noticed the factory paint vs custom being better then the other...

Most of ours are so small the only real reason you could see ours is if you look super close. I notice them, but while washing and looking for them. I use my touch up paint my friend gave me and they almost disappears. The reason I notice them is I'm over protective of the car and overall doesn't seem to bother me after all I love driving it when the wife lets me...

I have seen some pictures posted in other threads on this subject, and most all of the ones I remember were on dark colored cars...Mainly Black..

I have terrible problems with etching on the paint. It seems like any contaminant that gets on the paint immediately etches. Very frustrating.
