GM needs to really step it up to make the Z/28 better than the GT500. The Shelby is already lighter than the Camaro SS, which will only get heavier with the bigger engine, brakes, suspension bits, etc. Driving dynamics need to be top notch to best the Shelby as well. Even with the wagon axle in the back, Ford managed a time of 2:58 on VIR with the '11 GT500 with SVT PP...and that was a full one second faster than the Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI. True, they weren't tracked on the same day with the same driver, but sub-3 minutes is a fast time on that track config...period. The CTS-V has great driving dynamics, but it still can't completely beat the physics of 4300 lbs. It completed VIR in approx. 3:04....one second faster than an M3. Assuming a direct LSA transplant to the Camaro, I'd expect at least 100-200 lbs to be added to the SS weight, so we're talking a 4100 lbs Camaro. Even with a power boost above 550, it's doubtful that's going to improve track times drastically since you're most likely shredding tires at 550 HP anyway. Similar weights and similar power are going to yield similar track times with the Camaro. Not sure what else you can change...the CTS-V already has a great set of tires and a world class suspension. To the person who says the 5.0L is better than the 5.4L...sorry, wrong there. The 5.4L has a forged crank, pistons, and rods, plasma-wire-arc cylinder coating (no cylinder sleeves), etc. Also, I believe LSA pistons are cast...not forged. The GT500 is more incredible than its horsepower rating. By making reducing weight of the engine and improving cylinder design, Ford was able to INCREASE horsepower and eliminate the gas guzzler tax on this engine. An off the shelf LSA will not beat the gas tax in a Camaro without serious weight reduction...and that just won't happen on the Zeta without exotic materials. GM has some hurdles to clear if they want to be top dog. I hope they do it.

So if this has the LSA engine in it, it's an all forged bottom end, right? Not just an LS3 with a blower on it? Imagine the glut of used SS's on the market next year due to trade ins. I'll be one of them! By the way, never heard an LSA, anybody have a link to a sound bite or something? Blower whine is still there I hope.
