Front tire wear 2SSm6

Ok, I have had my camaro alomost a year.I have 23000 miles on it, I drive it moderately, mostly highway miles. I have been averaging about 22 miles per gallon. The first two oil changes were done at the dealer, I started doing my own when there prices went ballistic. the last oil change that they did was at 12,000 miles and they do a complete check of the car. there report said that all for tires were at 8/32. At 20203 miles I brought the car in for some issues. well I get my report back and they said that I need new front tires and that my alignment was off. I was a little upset. I took my car to a friend who owns a Les schwab, and he said that both tires are wearing exactly the same and that this is not some that just occured. so I am going to get a report from him and show it to the dealership. I just posted this for those of you who's cars still have low mileage. Keep an eye on your tire wear. they don't want waranty this, they want to sell me a new set of tires and pay for an alignment. I am going to fight this I don't think that after only 20000 miles I should be buying new tires.

20,000 miles is not really that bad for a set of performance tires. That's about what I've always gotten from tires on my 4th gen Camaros and my '04 GTO.

What kind of wear do you have? Is it the innner tread? The GTOs and I think the G8 wear the inside of the tire real bad, and the Camaro has a similar front suspension I think.

Tire wear

The inside is wearing, and I do agree with you about normal but this car is not driven that hard I drive alot of high way, I would think the rears would be worn out first.

well at 20k you should have had the alignment checked at least 3 times, every 6k,i dont know about les schwab but fierstone will do a free alignment check, most cars are out of alignment buy the time you drive it off the lot,its a maint service,i do mine every couple of months due to the bad roads here in Tacoma, but my tires have nice even wear and plenty of life in them at 16k,many companies offer lifetime alignments for anywhere around 140-170 sounds like you might want to look into it

If this is 20k of city driving...you are lucky you got that many miles. The TBSS had a reputation for eating tires and brakes...my highway truck had 40k miles out of the original tires and still had the factory brakes on the truck at 75k miles when I sold it. My friends that only drove their's around town...were putting on tires at around 20k miles and brakes usually at the same time.

It all depends on how and where you drive. As far as alignment, GM was only responsible up to 10,000 or 12,000 miles (can't remember what the book says) as it is considered a maintenance item.

Wow, the Pirellis have a 220 treadwear rating. If you make it past 20,000 miles consider yourself LUCKY!!! The 220 treadwear should get about 15,000 miles based in the UTQG Treadware Grades where a 200 rating equals 14,400 miles of life.

You said the inside is worse, what is the depth the tread inside, center, & outside? Any pics?
