BTW just tried this on a stick shift Toyota Corolla (friends car) and the same thing happened. The car rev's all the way.

Don't think it's a flaw but more like a limitation.

If the cruise control disengaged if you just touched the pedal, we would have a bunch of people complaining that the cruise control keeps shutting off. When I use cruise and am slowing down, I just tap the button to disengage while it's in gear and let it coast down - saves fuel and brakes. When I resume speed I just tap the resume wheel up and I'm back at the original speed.

Try that method - coasting in neutral is a bad way to slow down and in some states it's actually illegal.

Boy is everyone getting grouchy? Time for a nap?

I would go with the length of travel when the clutch pedal is pushed.

Even with the manual transmission, I use my cruise control in many locations to maintain proper speed , thereby keeping the Local Law Enforcement Officials at bay.

Reading through this thread really was a trip .

I. Have to ask, how is coasting in Neutral illegal?

If all power train functions stopped, and you are on a freeway or major highway and had to coast of to the side of the road, how would something like taht be illegal?

I even know some people who coast in neutral at times to extend fuel economy.

just asking'.

Your clutch position sensor, (if there is such a thing) may be out of adjustment. A simple tap of the clutch pedal in my car disengages the cruise. I use it that way all the time.

If it is something that concerns you, take it to the dealer and have it looked at. What I think everyone is basically saying is that you might get the answer back that it checks out.

It's a risk you take when you post here that some will have a bit of fun at your expense, try not to take it personally.

Have you had other manuals with cruise that you are comparing too? or is this the first one? From my experience you can push the clutch in a littel bit and not dissengage the cruise. I also know I can pull the shift lever out of gear coming off the highway with very little effort.

My only question is why only push the clutch in just a tiny bit? Either don't use the clutch at all or completely dissengage it. What you are describing is just slipping the clutch which only causes more wear.

But if you don't like it or are concerned, go to your dealer and have it inspected. But from what you've described, you might get an aok.

Theres a switch behind your clutch (the same switch that will prevent you from starting your car unless the clutch is "fully depressed") that disengages the cruise control. For the switch to activate you have to depress it fully. If you want to know the "bite" point for the switch Just sit in your car (when its off) and hold the clutch at different positions when starting. that should tell you how far you have to push the clutch to engage the switch.

That being said with 10 years of manual driving experience (I actually don't know how to drive automatics) I can tell you that depressing the clutch is good for the car.

It hasn't happened to me, personally, but I know a guy who got a ticket in Columbia, SC for speeding. When he apologized to the cop and mentioned that he wasn't paying attention to his speed because he put it in neutral while going down the hill, he got ticketed for that, too. The cop told him that it was illegal to put your car in neutral while in motion.

Your switch simply needs readjusted. Mine de-activates the cruise control almost immediately. You should be able to make this adjustment yourself (but I haven't looked to verify) fairly easy. Let us know how it works out.

My advice would be to stop by your Chevy dealership and ask them if it's a problem! Yours may be out of adjustment and it could be a serious problem! I just tap the little button on the steering wheel when I am coming up to a car, light, stopsign, etc. to disengage the cruise. That's why they made it so easy for us by putting it on the steering wheel! Only depressing your clutch part way is not good for the car either, keeps it spinning and burns it out before it's time.
Actually there's a little town not too far from here that has a serious 2 mile 25 mph stretch that is one heckuva speed trap for the local law, I do use my cruise control there so as to not get ticketed. I like that the Camaro does allow me to use cruise in lower gears as my Cobalt would not engage cruise unless in 4th or 5th gear.

Yes, the theory goes that you lose some control of your vehicle. Obviously if it breaks down that's a different story.

With DFCO I would argue that in most cases you save more fuel by coasting in gear

Where does it state you should push the clutch all the way in when you shift? I'm sure that everyone with a stick pushes the clutch all the way to the floor everytime they shift. I've only been driving for 30+ years and owned a manual transmission in several cars, never had an at-fault accident in my life but when driving the Camaro you must have special skills.

I can't believe I forgot why I don't post anything in the forum any more....but I was quickly reminded.
Russ: I took the time to read all the entries replying to your thread.

Yes you have reason to be upset, as some responses were bordering on disrepectful and insulting.

You posted a legitimate question and some of the answers you've got came from a bunch of 4th grade school kids (which actually is unfair to 4th grade kids most of which are far more respectful & smarter than this!!!).

People are what they write, so don't get offended or annoyed by the responses you get: check who they are coming from and take them accordingly.

Having said this, Did you checked what NASHSTAT, CATIAJOCKEY and 3min3m2 wrote??

Kind of interesting experiences they had... I have one word for this : calibration.

Perhaps GM did this intentionally has someone suggested, perhaps is just an unintended glitch but anyway it will be interesting to find out if there is a way to recalibrate the sensors for the cruise control to reslve your issue.

I will probably get flamed also for this, but like I said, you take things on the merit of who writes them not what is written alone.

Safe riding to you all,
