The SS manuals will have that same shifting technology that the Cobalt SS has, where you can just leave the gas pedal floored all the way through and when you hit the clutch the ECM keeps the RPMs level without droping or spiking while you shift. So, if you are buying an SS speed shifting will be a piece of cake even for inexperienced drivers. That is unless you accidentally shift into the wrong gear.
Hopefully the rev limiter is as reactive as those found on Ferraris or even some Hondas I've driven, where no matter what gear you shift to and how fast you are going, the very millisecond you hit fuel cutoff it cuts off, and will almost instantly pull down to idle. The LS and LT manuals will not have this technology however. |

after about 2.5 years of having my m6 SS I've got POWER SHIFTING down pretty good. I have it in 1st, then floor it (while using my best '60 method) and I've gotten good enough to keep the gas to the floor at 6000rpms and clutch, shift, clutch out fast enough to hit the rev limiter only once or not at all.
btw I've got chromoly pushrods, full boltons, and an awesome clutch that slips 0% ! So the other day my friend's wife was getting on his nerves while I was driving me and him around, and when she hung up I said man this'll make you feel better(as I was entering a highway at about 30mph) I put it from 5th down to 1st, then MATTED IT lmao did a power shift to 2nd, spun a little(supprised not way more like usual maybe tires were warm) powershifted 3rd, and it was like we were sling shotted hard as hell forward. I was like oh shit hahaha

The rev limiter will not save your engine's pushrods and valves if you miss a shift and go 3rd to 2nd (instead of 4th) at 6 grand... ask me how I know...
![]() The rev limiter/fuel shutoff is unable to prevent mechanical over-revving, should one happen to go 3-2 or 2-1 (instead of hitting 3rd) at the redline. It will, however, prevent you from over-revving on an upshift FWIW, after my experience, if you want to speed shift or powershift, turn your wrist 90 degrees to the left and "backhand" the 3-4 shift, with your palm facing outwards to the right, as this will keep leverage to the right, rather than mistakingly bringing it back in to the left. Best regardSS, Elie

Repeat after me, rev-limiters cannot defy the laws of physics.
If you mechanically over rev the engine (miss a redline shift to 3rd and hit 1st, or say downshift from 4th to 1st at high speed), you WILL do damage. Rev limiter cant stop that.

I Missed 4th once and was convinced the hood on my truck was gonna blow off at any second.... Ever since then, If I even think I've missed a gear I won't even let the clutch out. I'll just go back to neutral and then be sure I'm in the right gear. I'd rather loose that run than write that check.

Lot of good info. guys. Im learnin', learnin' I'm gonna have to take this real slow and careful. The last speed shift for me was a four speed, so 2nd to 3rd was just slammin' it hard right and forward, no 5th to worry about. Of course, it's all dependent on me switching to the M6, but I think I'm going to....never enjoyed the '85 Z28 with the auto. Thanks all!

They should come up with a type of transmision that would just shift for you. I would just order that.
