is it true that....

Hey guys I was reading a thread on here where someone said you had to give your camaro a oil change every 500 miles... I looked it up and couldn't find anything on it. Just to be safe I gave mines an oil change when I hit 500. Im comin up on 1k now and just wondering if its really true. Can anyone confirm this?? thanks!

If you are using Mobil 1, changing every 5,000. miles or once a year, whichever comes first. If you are loaded, you can change as often as you want, Your car, your money. My oil was changed the first time at 1000. and I will do it again at 5,000. After that every 5,000 for life of Camaro.

I change my oil and filter on all the new cars that I have had at around 500 miles. After that, I follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

It is probably overkill, but I have been doing it for years. The theory being that a newly built engine will have some machine shavings. Changing the oil AND filter should remove most of these particles.

Since you already changed your oil once, just follow the DIC (Driver Information Center), it will tell you when you need to change the oil.

i think you might be confusing the "500 mile rule" for the controversial break-in period first oil change.

Its your car do want you want with it, but thats a lot of money. Think about that when you hit 50000 miles you will have done 100 oil changes, if you did it at every 3000 it would be about 17 oil changes big differance there.

I originally changed my (factory) oil at 1500 miles. I just changed my oil again after another 5500 miles. I will NEVER wait that long again. That sh*t was black!

Changed mine at 1000 miles which is common for break in. Changes from there on out at 5000. Please don't pay attention to the DIC, it's a sham in my opinion and we have it on 4 GM vehicles...I just don't trust it at all. It's one of those things that If you need the car to tell you to do it, then you shouldn't have the car. BUT you will have to reset the darn thing just to keep from looking at it.

MOBIL1 is great oil and at 8.5 quarts for a change, it's a bit pricey....but worth it!!

i changed my V6 motor oil at 750 miles... gotta get that crap out of my engine. So i went to synthetic blend. And at 1500 i changed to full synthetic. Going to go with the same oil for every 5000 miles from now on

I don't think wasting money every 5,000 miles is very smart considering the minds behind the OLM. If you follow the OLM it will go well over 5,000 miles. I trust the PhD Engineers at GM more than I trust the random opinions of everyday people.

changing your oil is the cheapest insurance for your engine you will buy. if you drive like grandma moses, then maybe every 5000 miles is ok. if you run it somewhat hard to hard, every 3000 miles. im old school. i also use royal purple. i run mine at the track and it is not a dd, so the expense is more affordable. but i would go with every 3000.
