I keep going back to a video or interview I saw with Scott S about how everyone needed to forget about the engines we have now because they won't be around when this car comes out.......hints are all around us, we just have to figure out which hint goes where.......

You know what? I need to stop reading this forum. I already can't wait for this car to become available, but every new detail just makes it worse and worse.

All I ask is that it be a Camaro, but no, they had to not only make it the God of all cars, they had to price it in the range of the working man! Damn you GM!

I'm off to go sit in a dark box until I can get in my car and drive away into the sunset.

Anyone have any technical details about direct injection? I am not familiar with it.

it's "like" a spark plug. In a way, that it is directly IN the cyllynder. It's a high-pressure injector that squirts fuel right into the cyllinder, as opposed to the intake duct. By doing that, it cools down the air-charge in the cyllinder, and the ECU can time each one to fire early, or later, depending on conditions, like a cold start. Thus increasing fuel economy. Since it cools the charge, a higher compression ration can be used - increasing performance.

If you go to www.cadillac.com and click on the "learn more about the all-new '08 CTS" it'll take you to a flash tour where you can click on "videos" and then "powertrain" or "engine" I forget which it is. Anyways it goes into a detailed explanation of what makes this engine so great, and into a detailed explanation of DIG...

Oh I definitely disagree with that statement. Making a factory forced-induction car faster is so much easier than a factory n/a car.

You got that right. Less under the hood is less to break...although I do like that whine of a SC!

I go away for a few days and this is what I miss.....

It sounds like the Camaro will have the Generation V engine, but I'm still curious about where that leaves the Vette. Having an LS3 out for only 2 years at the most doesn't seem right to me.

I also don't see a 2009 Vette having a generation IV LS3, while the new 2009 Camaro has a generation V small block V8. It just doesn't seem natural.

I'm still skeptical on the pricing, but I am the skeptical type to begin with. Maybe the very base "stripper" model of the V8 will be in the low $30ks but start adding leather seats, premium stereos, and the other doodads I see that number closing in on $40k real fast....but my motto with all these cars is that only time will tell.

We'll see how things play out. But I'd imagine that there's much more pressure on GM to get the GenV smallblock out now that just a year or so ago.

Fair point, and a little piece of trivia I was unaware of.

I don't think we have to worry about that... in the same article where they announced this new development, it was stated that GM engineers had already produced 700hp from this block with minimal modifications. I think GMPP is going to make it NICE and EASY to make good power from this engine.

The way I see it, 500hp n/a Camaro + Supercharger = 600hp+
Realistically though, 600 would be wayyyy too much for normal street driving imo. Anything over 400 will be fine for me, the rest is just a cherry on top!
