The beemer just had a mid cycle refresh so that affected its value a lot.

It would be a very good trade. However, you must decide if you really want a Camaro. Like someone said, it is very different from the BMW. The BMW spoils you in relative comfort, handling, adequate quickness, and very solid interior and exterior. Even after 2 years, I bet the BMW still feels tighter overall than a new Camaro.
I agree, the Camaro has the appeal now because it is new but give it 2 years and it won't be so special anymore. The BMW on the other hand, will always be a BMW.
I have an e36 M3 that I drive a lot more than my Camaro. Personally, if I was choosing between the two as my only car, I would 100% stay with the BMW. But it also depends on the circumstances. Kids, commuter, only car, etc. etc.
But if the 3-series bimmer is 5+years old, then this would be a great trade that none can pass up.
