I have a feeling that they may end up reneging on this...just too many positive reactions. People seem to be liking it better than the sedan, too.

And the Cruze website says that it's a coupe up at the top. If only...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it here. But there are good reasons why it might not be.
While I think that car looks damn hot -- I gotta agree with you, Number 3. When it all boils down; I wouldn't buy one. I'd be more into a traditional sedan or coupe.

I'm not a fan of hatchbacks at all in terms of practicality. I like my crap to be hidden (from both passers-by and myself), I like the separation of cabin from cargo just in case (and I have) there's smelly stuff I need to carry. Overall I think a well-executed sedan or coupe looks better than a hatch, as well. (see CTS portfolio)

A friend of mine has a scion X...b? The hatchback (not so boxy) one. I have the Cobalt, and his wife has a Cobalt. We can fit FAR more stuff in our vehicles than he can. And he knows it. If it weren't for the fact that he doesn't want more car payments...he'd be selling it right now for a Malibu or something a little larger and 'normal'. We've talked about this on numerous occasions....

To be perfectly honest, once the excitement settled -- the thing that really makes me love that hatch-Cruze is the lighting changes on the front and rear of the vehicle. It just.....works. So well. Put those all on the US-spec vehicle, and I wouldn't look twice at the hatchback...or any other competitor for that matter.

There is no doubt the Cruze hatch is gorgeous. I like it too. But you've hit on the reasons that make them less popular here.

For example, I can fit golf clubs in the back of a Cruze NB, but to so in the hatch? I'd have to put the rear seats down.

Now in Europe, smaller packages (less rear overhang from NO trunk) make a car easier to maneuver and park. I've only been there once, but it's very clear to me that this would be an important buying decision. So with being said, having a small car that you can drop the seat down and carry some stuff (without people) would also be handy.

I hope they bring it even if it is low volume.................just not likely as a hatch or wagon as neither do well in the U.S.

Of course some day when CAFE requires a 50MPG Fleet average...............................Can you say Z24??
