I just got my Car and Driver. They estimate the new Mustang GT will do 0-60 in 5.0 and 1/4-mile in 13.6.

No, what we're talking about is not 0-60 times - its 1/4 miles.
Mustang V6 - 15.3 @ 6.9 0-60 @ 21,000 Camaro V6 - 14.5 @ 6.1 0-60. If they drop it to 5.9 0-60, we're looking close to 14.3 @ 23,000 Mustang GT w/ track package - 13.7 @ 5.2 0-60 @ 31,500 Camaro SS - 13.0 @ 4.6 0-60 @ 31,000 .6 seconds, for 8,500 less. Yep, that'll be so hard to pick up. *sarcasm* No, the camaro won't be faster than the GT stock for stock, at least not in a straight line (It'll sure as hell beat it through the corners, but thats not the point). The point is that for the price difference, you would expect a LOT more of a gap. Especially since the V6 camaro will pick up 40 flywheel horses for under a grand - add 2,500 for a suspension upgrade, and 500 for better tires (not even slicks), and the V6 camaro will pass a GT through the 1/4, for almost five grand less. - Xanthos P.S. - And look better doing it.

The Camro V6 will not beat a Mustang GT in a straight line, but lets not forget the V6 gets waaaaay better fuel economy, 27mpg V6 camaro vs 22mpg mustang gt (auto). How do you guys think the V6 camaro will compare to the Mustang Gt is the Twisties??

First off, for 2009, the comparison is camaro, to GT500, the camaro needs to focus on looking up, not down. 2nd, the mustang reportedly gets 400hp for 2010, so the GT's time is coming very soon, because that 400hp will be in a lighter wrapper...it will be a MUCH closer race then, and since Ford has a decent aftermarket (unlike dodge), it WILL be GAME ON. 3rd, stock for stock for almost even money (less than 2K diff), the 370Z will eat the mustang GT 1/4 mile and especially road course...according to the estimated times in C/D. The 370 gets better mileage and would be more fun to drive as well...and Nissan has a pretty robust aftermarket as well...you will see TT kits for these VERY soon, so camaro's SS or not look out.
Personally, I'd like to have seen for give the mustang the 400hp motor and a 6 speed now, but it still looks decent, and is a pretty good value for the fun it is. But Chevy has aimed the camaro to be in a whole other league with the drivetrain, suspension, and chassis archetecture. Just can't wait to drive it.

Yeah,i'd say that's decent for a 19K car. It proves my point, numbers are meaningless,it's all in the drive. Go drive a Miata and you'll see what i mean.

I'll see more Vipers and Vettes than GT500's, which is looking more and more like a desperation move by Ford to give their fans something to rally about rather than the GT and V6 models they have produced. They have known about the Camaro for several years now and their response is nothing short of a disgrace to their fans. |

If we keep going down this road, this thread won't last long either.

I think you're being dishonest if you think a car as fast as the '10 GT is a disgrace. You don't have to like it,but you lose credibility by calling it a disgrace,i've yet to read one bad review of it or hear anything bad about the Bullitt. It may not punch all of YOUR personal buttons, but it's still a pretty nice ride. The SS Camaro will be faster but that doesn't make the GT slow. A ZR1 doesn't make a Viper slow. A Z06 doesn't make a GT500 slow. this isn't 1994,and we don't have 215HP Mustangs anymore. |

In my opinion by the way you speak, you seem to rely a ton on magazines and seem to be an avid bench racer. The 2010 Mustang GT will not lose to the 2010 Camaro V6 Period. In the twisties, I wouldent exactly claim the Mustang GT is going to "sure as hell" get tromped by the V6 Camaro. 40 "Flywheel" Horsepower for under a grand...pointless. If you've ever actually drag raced, and know alittle about how to race the main thing to get you out of the hole is TORQUE. 2500 dollars for a suspension upgrade, how does this make the v6 any faster? At the drag strip IRS usually isnt the preferred rear end. 500 bucks for tires? Again what for? To help that 3.6 with your claimed 340 hp and 270 plus torque rocket down the 1/4 As for the V6 Camaro passing a GT in the 1/4 for roughly $4000 in upgrades this could be a valid point, to each his own. Then again with $4k in upgrades, a 2010 GT can beat an SS...who cares. After you start to modify, upgrade its a whole new ball game. Look better doing it? Thats an opinion, not a fact. I guarantee you that you will not find a Camaro SS whether it be a 1SS/2SS being sold cheaper than a 2010 Mustang GT even with the Track Pack. $31k for a Camaro SS=no. $31,000 for a Mustang GT/track pack=yes. The Camaro SS is listed at $31k, this doesn't mean you'll find one for $31k out the door. The Mustang GT has nothing to worry about from the V6 Camaro. The SS will be the 2010 Mustang GTs only competition along with the Challenger RT/SRT-8. Both will be faster and should be. V6 Camaros/Mustangs racing V8s Camaros/Mustangs is irrelevant. Itll always happen from time to time and these types of races are pointless, unless the V6 is seriously built up. |
