for everyone that sees have to shift a manual tranny all the time as a negative, ask people that have been driving one for a while. if you drive it long enough, you don't even notice the fact that you shifted. you always shift to the correct gear even without thinking about it.

I see everyone debating and complaing about if you burn out the clutch and how much it will cost or how much it is to rebuild the auto, its a muscle car you will break shit and if your worried about that then you dont need to drive the car or do you need to buy a brand new car, so i say just get it, drive it, and drive it like its meant to be driven

I tore out the clutch in my old camaro less than a week after buying it - brand new clutch too. Having a bit too much fun. Cost like 50 dollars to replace. Not sure how clutches on new cars compare though.

People buy new cars so stuff doesn't break. If I wanted to be fixing crap all the time, I'd buy a 69. I'll drive it like it's meant to be driven but won't be doing much, if any racing. I live close to a good drag strip so might take it out there once or twice just for the helluvit but even that is only a slim chance. I want something that is fun to drive all the time, not just on the track and not just when it's not in the shop.

That was my point i was trying to make about just enjoying the car, not about going out and brake torqing it or dumping the clutch at every light, but just going out and having fun with the car but you can get away with driving the car like its one and it should break or get worn out like the older ones assuming Chevy has but the car as good as im expecting them to. But dont worry about the prices on stuff like the clutch cause if you are worried about that then you cant afford the car either!!!

I'm on the fence about the Manual. My only experience has been driving 5 speed Turf Cushman Trucksters from Textron. Those had 3 cyl diesel engines and were pretty beefy, but did NOT have any hydualic assist on the clutch or shifter. You had to find everything and I was pretty good at it too.

But I also developed the habit of leaving it in 4th and never downshifting (very torquey engine). So I'd just pop the clutch in and ride her to idle and then downshift to neutral again while breaking. (Foot off gas, clutch in while slowly tapping the brakes) Funny thing about that engine was that once the clutch was pushed in, the throttle would drop to idle.

As to other cars, I don't know if this is the same. Sooo

On a manual car/truck
When you let off the throttle and depress the clutch and brake, does the engine rev up when you throw it into neutral as it winds down?
How smooth are modern hydraulic assist trans?
How smooth are the clutch and can you feel them slip in and out of gear?
Anything else you guys can answer me about the Manual trans off of 4th gens?

Parents kinda kicked me away from manuals since I started driving. They've always had bad experiences with them so..yeah.

Cushman Trucksters
This is the manual set up I was trained on:
Clutch EFI Model: Diesel Models: 7.1 in. (180 mm), single disc and pressure plate

Transmission, Manual: Five-speed truck manual transmission with low-low (creeper) first gear; synchronized in all forward gears

Rear Axel: 11.16:1 ratio, two-speed transaxle; 7.1 in. (180 mm) hypoid ring gear; bevel differential gears; integral 3.2:1 auxiliary gear set; semi-floating axles with splined five-bolt wheel hubs; heavy-duty wheel bearings

I also have the transmission on my bike (minus 1st gear) so I kind of know how to shift in traffic. Still a pain as many say.

You are making a big mistake not going with manual, IMO. If you have the choice to get a M6 go for it! I bought a new GTO that was auto when they first came out and ended up trading it in within 2 months. Lost 4 grand on the trade in for the manual one, but i just couldn't take it anymore. Turned a great car into a piece with that 4-speed junk..

Good thing they're not using the old 4-speeds on this car then, huh?

Well, A) This was a 1986 car and B) I replaced it myself. Cost less than 50 bucks for the parts, and that was before the core charge.

If you had read my post you would have seen that I have no idea how much it costs to replace a clutch on newer cars, as I've never had to do it.

^^^Those guys were probably assuming you also replaced the pressure plate and throw-out bearing too as is common, not just the clutch plate.
