I think the assumption of everyone here was - they can make about 3500 cars a month, there are 10000 preorders so everyone should have theirs getting shipped out buy they end of May ish, receiving their babies by June at the latest. Pushing it back a month wouldn't have been the end of the world. Making cars that are just going to sit on a dealers lot vs. making SOLD orders is just BS.

I agree with just about everything you posted here.

But, I think that last bit is up for grabs. GM might be right in that once the cars hit the lots the average buyer may swarm to the V6's leaving V8's for the die hard enthusiast. Which we all know in this day and age V8 buyers will be the smaller market.

It make to much sense to make sold one first, especially to enthusiast who are more likely to buy accessories, and show off their cars.

Nope! Not worried. Among other reasons, I'm confident because I ordered on 10/13 from a small dealer, and no one else has ordered an SS from him, that it won't be an issue for me.

If the total number of preordered V8's stay under this amount, they will be delivered before the end of the allocation. So far only 11,000 preorders have been submitted. At a 80/20 split that's 8,800 V8's, 1,200 less then what they can build before then.

Knowing this, I feel confident that if you preordered your SS, you will get it before Oct. May not be within the 1st couple months but it will arrive before Oct.
They also said that 30% of the dealers did not submit pre-orders. Allocation will not be given based on pre-orders so there is no way that this can be guaranteed.

That 30% should not be given any Camaros!!.. Obviously there's no market where they are located.

Same here. I really want to support GM but sorry, I'm not buying a Camaro in Western NY in the Fall/Winter just so I can lock it up in a garage.

If that turns out to be the case, I will be canceling my order.

My dealership is a SMALL town country dealership, they where allocated 4, and I'm #1.
So, if I'm looking at 2010 calender year before my order will be built, that will just not be feasible for me as I need a new car this year, Camaro or not...

Thumbs up

I'm sure GM is frustrated about the delay too. They want the Camaro rolling out the door so they can invoice them and get paid.

As frustrating as this is to all of us, please try to look at the big picture.

Down the road a little bit, 4 weeks will be forgotten, and high quality will be enjoyed for the life of the car.

It wasn't long ago that there was no Interweb, and no info like this. We used to hang-on to little snapshots in monthly car magazines.

For the folks who have leases ending, or other issues, I understand your frustration.

This will be all over before you know it, and the Camaro is worth the wait.

Remember that the 370Z, Mustang, and Challenger are all vehicles that were already being produced in one form or another, and they could simply update their current manufacturing facilities.

The Camaro is a fresh-sheet design, with all-new construction, on a new to the vehicle assembly line.

Many more logistics than a refresh, or Charger shaped into a Challenger.

In the end, the wait will be worth the years of pleasure.

Hang in there!

CAFE sounds plausible, but without delving into all of the esoterica, algorithms and credits that are involved in figuring the Average, I would postulate that these few thousand V8 Camaros are not that big of a deal. The Volt is going to really, really help GM in this area, and...well, like I said, I just don't think CAFE is the culprit here.
